Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a monitoring device (100) for remotely monitoring health of a young livestock animal (10), the device (100) comprising: an elongated body (110) within predefined dimensional limits; and a set of electronic components housed within the elongated body (110), the electronic components comprising: a temperature sensor for measuring body temperature of the young livestock animal (10); a computer processor for processing the measured temperature into temperature data; and a wireless communications component for transmitting the temperature data to a remote computer device (210) for processing to monitor the health of the young livestock animal (10), wherein the predefined dimensional limits of the elongated body (110) enable the monitoring device (100) to be orally administrable into the young livestock animal (10) and to remain inside its stomach (12) without being excreted.
