Abstract: The present invention generally relates to apparatuses for drying heat-sensitive protein compositions. In one aspect, the present invention is directed to a pulse resonator/atomizer for drying heat sensitive protein compositions. The pulse resonator/atomizer comprises: a rotating valve spun by a variable-speed electric motor controlled by a Variable Frequency Drive, plus an atomizer to introduce the heat sensitive protein compositions into the resonating gas stream for drying.
Abstract: Methods for pulse combustion spray drying of heat-sensitive protein compositions using high temperature pulsating jets to atomize and dry the feed simultaneously are described herein. Methods and compositions described herein provide dried protein-containing compositions with low protein denaturation and other useful functional properties at high operational efficiencies.
Abstract: Dried distiller's solubles is described. Methods for drying condensed distiller's solubles into dried distiller's solubles are presented. The methods may include introducing the condensed distiller's solubles into a drying gas stream and recovering dried distiller's solubles from the drying gas stream.

Abstract: The present inventions relate to pulse combustion dryer apparatus and associated methods. The pulse combustion dryer apparatus may include a combustor that defines a combustion chamber that is in fluid communication with a tailpipe passage defined by a tailpipe. An air inlet communicates air into the combustion chamber through an air inlet passage. A fluid diode disposed within the air inlet passage allows airflow into the combustion chamber through the air inlet passage, and may generally prevent backflow of heated combustion products from the combustion chamber through the air inlet passage.
