    Abstract: An improved railroad coupler mount is provided for securely mounting railroad signalling and monitoring equipment (10) on the coupler of the last railroad car of a train. The railroad coupler mount includes a banana shape member (30) which extends through a pair of relief holes (22) in the knuckle (12) of the railroad car coupler. The railroad coupler mount has a tightening means (28) for partially withdrawing the banana shaped member and tightly pressing a support leg (20) against the side wall of the coupler to provide a secure mount which is free of rotation problems. The railroad coupler mount is secured with a locking device (26) which serves the dual function of resisting the total withdrawal of the banana shaped member when the railroad coupler mount is tightened as well as preventing the unauthorized removal of the signalling and monitoring equipment. The railroad coupler mount is attached in a position which avoids damage to the signalling and monitoring equipment due to accidental coupling.

    Abstract: A marker light using an array (2) of light emitting diodes (12) in combination with lenses (3) provides a light beam of required intensity, shape and color for railroad applications. The light emitting diodes are arranged in various configurations to form the array (2). The lenses may be Fresnel lenses. Control circuitry (C) energizes the light emitting diodes at predetermined or variable flashing rates. Sensing circuitry (222) senses the failure of light emitting diodes in the array and provides an indication of such failure.

    Abstract: A technique for redundantly encoding data for synchronous or asynchronous serial transmission or recording and the correlative technique for decoding the serial bit stream are disclosed. The encoding technique involves making the second data string of a data string pair the complement of the first data string and formatting to the format H.sub.1 Data H.sub.2 Data where H.sub.1 and H.sub.2 are headers wherein at least one bit is the same in corresponding bit positions of the headers. Decoding involves first detecting the headers and then checking to confirm that the data fields are complements. Also disclosed is a technique for extracting bits from the data stream.

    Abstract: An improved attaching device is provided for securely mounting railroad signalling and monitoring equipment (10, 12) on the coupler (36) of a railroad car. A package including a supporting frame (22) to which the equipment is fastened by a draw pull (16) rests on the top surface of the coupler. The supporting frame includes a mounting bracket (32) having an integral rod (50) which extends through the flag hole in the coupler knuckle. The end of the rod projects beyond the bottom of the coupler so that it can be secured. In the second embodiment (FIGS. 8 and 9), the rod (111) has bifurcated extensions (116, 118) which serve to strengthen the supporting frame (80). This embodiment also includes shock absorbing elements (108, 110 and 122). In a third embodiment, a post (162) slidably carries a shaft or rod (188) that is retractable into a locking position with the coupler. A crank (176) is used to retract the shaft into a locking position.

    Abstract: A tubing replaceable, peristaltic pump includes a base plate and a rotor mounted on the base plate and having peripherally spaced thrust rollers. Pivotally mounted on the base plate on opposite sides of the rotor are a pair of stator members which are swingable about proximate laterally spaced ends thereof between closed and open positions with their inner concave cylindrical faces confronting the rotor being respectively proximate and coaxial with the rotor and remote from the rotor. Hand operated devices are located at the free ends of the stator members and swing the stator members between locked closed positions and open positions. A flexible collapsible tube is entrapped between the rotor and closed stator members and is replaceable when the stator members are in opened position, the tube extending radially outwardly between the stator member laterally spaced front ends. If desired the stator members are reciprocatable towards and away from the rotor.

The reverberation is provided by a channel signal delay scheme in combination with a channel interconnection network which achieves long reverberation times with a high echo density that eliminates objectionable, discrete echo effects.

    Abstract: Defective or unwanted tissue is removed such as from the lens of an eye by directing a pulsating high velocity liquid jet onto the defecting tissue to disintegrate the tissue and sucking the liquid entraining the disintegrated tissue from the area adjacent the tissue by a suction conduit. A control system is provided to insure the proper amount of suction. The control system also monitors the suction conduit and in response to a sudden change in pressure resulting from a clogging condition, the sucking action is reversed causing pressure to be forced through the conduit. Salt crystals can be added into the liquid stream of the pulsating liquid to improve the cutting action.

    Abstract: This electronic voltmeter is particularly suited to develop volume unit output readings for appliance type electronic equipment. Seven operational amplifiers are used to selectively and separately energize seven light emitting diodes. Each of the operational amplifiers is provided a reference voltage. Additionally, each operational amplifier is supplied a voltage proportional to the peak voltage of the signal from the electronic equipment. The reference voltage and the voltage proportional to the peak signal from the equipment are compared by each operational amplifier. The operational amplifiers are sequentially switched as the level of the peak signal from the equipment increases. Six of the seven light emitting diodes are energized through transistors. The transistors coact with the operational amplifiers to extinguish all but one light emitting diode. Accordingly, only a single light emitting diode is energized at any time.

    Abstract: A method for winding wire strands onto toroidal cores in which a length of wire is fed along a radially inwardly facing channel in an arcular guide to form a loop. As the leading end of the wire completes this loop it hugs the channel's radial boundary to form a second loop radially inside the first as the wire feeding continues. A gap is provided in the radial boundary of the channel for receiving the core with the core's central aperture in this gap so as each loop is formed the wire in that loop passes through the core. The upper and lower boundaries of the channel are spaced apart so as to maintain the loops in a single concentric layer around the guide and through the core. When enough wire has been fed the feeding is stopped, but the movement of the loops around the guide continues and winds (tightens) at least one new turn of wire onto the core for every complete circulation of the loops around the guide.

    Abstract: A bolt mechanism of the disclosure has a bolt driven between latching and non-latching positions by a rotary electric motor through a speed reduction gear drive train which includes a slip clutch that permits the bolt to be manually moved from either position thereof to the other in a manner overriding the drive train and the motor. The electric motor is of the DC type, and an electrical control circuit therefor reverses polarity and terminates the motor operation as the bolt moves to either of its positions so that subsequent normal motor operation is in a reverse direction to drive the bolt to the other position. A recess in the bolt receives an output gear of the drive train as well as an elongated gear rack fixedly mounted with respect to the bolt and meshed with the output gear to provide the bolt movement during motor operation. A handle mounted on the bolt is manually grasped to provide the overriding movement of the bolt.
