  • Publication number: 20110007089
Abstract: Image processing may be performed to generate a color image for display on a color display screen and a monochrome image for display on a monochrome display screen, where an overlap of the images may produce a resultant color image at one or more depths. The one or more depths may be determined by an amount of blur applied to one image and an amount of sharpness applied to other. The one or more depths may be determined by a gamma value of the monochrome image. Since the monochrome display screen may have fewer or no color filters and/or a lower resolution, the monochrome display screen may pass more light than conventional color display screens. As such, less light can be used to illuminate color images displayed at different depths using a color display screen and a monochrome display screen, thereby reducing energy consumption of the display device.

  • Publication number: 20100248577
Abstract: An improved optical diffuser for use in a multi-component display (MCD), and also to a method of manufacturing the same, is disclosed. Embodiments provide an optical diffuser film which may be manufactured with fewer manual operations, at a lower cost, and in larger volume than conventional optical diffusers. The optical diffuser film may include a flexible polymer substrate coupled to an optical diffuser material with a plurality of features for diffusing light. The optical diffuser film may be stored, transported, or otherwise handled more easily and with less damage than conventional optical diffusers. Additionally, the optical diffuser film may be coupled to a rigid substrate to reduce distortion of the optical diffuser, thereby providing improved optical performance.

  • Publication number: 20100156922
Abstract: A method of rendering an image using a multi-component display includes displaying a first image on a first display screen of the multi-component display, wherein the displaying the first image further includes displaying the first image with a first luminance. A second image is displayed on a second display screen of the multi-component display, wherein the first display screen and the second display screen overlap, and wherein the displaying the second image further includes displaying the second image with a second luminance. The displaying of the first image and the displaying of the second image further include displaying the first and second images in an overlapping manner to render the image, and wherein a perceived depth of the image is related to the first luminance and the second luminance.

  • Publication number: 20100115439
Abstract: A method of assigning screen designation codes to images is disclosed. The method includes accessing data operable to display a first image and a second image. A first screen designation code is assigned to the first image, wherein the first screen designation code is associated with a first display screen of a multi-component display, and wherein the first screen designation code is operable to cause a display of the first image on the first display screen of the multi-component display. A second screen designation code is assigned to the second image, wherein the second screen designation code is associated with a second display screen of the multi-component display, wherein the first display screen and the second display screen overlap, and wherein the second screen designation code is operable to cause a display of the second image on the second display screen of the multi-component display.

  • Patent number: 7439683
Abstract: A circuit board on which the electronic components providing power to a series of light sources is positioned as near as possible to light sources in order to minimize parasitic energy losses which would be introduced by lengths of wiring. The light sources are usually elongate tubular Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tubes arranged parallel to one another in a single plane and the circuit board may be mounted directly over the light sources, towards one end of the tubes. Standard PCB board-to-board connectors may be provided at an edge of the circuit board and a further circuit board provided with a series of conductive tracks may provide both a mechanical and electrical connection between the circuit board and the light sources. A power distribution method is also disclosed in which both current and temperature of the light sources are monitored and regulated in order to extend the lifetime of the light sources and to stabilize their brightness.

  • Publication number: 20080152842
Abstract: A matte surface of a display screen is converted to an optically flat surface, for example, via an epoxy resin coating or the like which has a refractive index equal to that of the matte surface. A film with a substantially flat surface may be applied to the matte surface. Alternatively, the matte surface may be removed from the screen, and replaced with an optically smooth surface. The matte surface may be a diffusive surface formed on a birefringent film of an LCD screen. The display screen is the front screen of a multilevel three-dimensional display comprising layered screens, and altering the surface from matte to flat reduces the blurring of displayed images.
