Abstract: A system for resolving range ambiguity includes a wave generator a modulator for applying a digital signature to a continuous wave to generate a digitally-signed continuous wave, a transmitter for emitting the digitally-signed continuous wave from the ranging system as interrogating radiation towards an object, a receiver for receiving a portion of the interrogating radiation after reflection from the object, a correlator for correlating the portion of the interrogating radiation against the emitted digitally signed continuous wave according to the digital signature, a processor for determining from correlation in the correlator an elapsed time period between emitting the interrogating radiation and receiving the portion of the interrogating radiation after reflection from the object, wherein the processor calculates a range of the object from the transmitter by employing space-time adaptive processing and to determine a velocity of the object from correlation in the correlator using Doppler detection.

  • Publication number: 20180306902
Abstract: A method of calibrating a multiple-input and multiple-output radar system is provided. The radar system includes a transmitting array and a physical receiving array. The transmitting array includes a first transmitter and a second transmitter spaced a distance away from the first transmitter. In the method, a waveform signal is transmitted firstly from the first transmitter and then from the second transmitter, such that receiving sub-apertures of the physical receiving array overlap with receiving sub-apertures of a virtual receiving array. The waveform signal is received at the physical and virtual receiving arrays. Subsequently, deviations in response between the physical receiving array and the virtual receiving array are computed. Effective positions of the first transmitter and the second transmitter are assessed, based upon the computed deviations. Setup calibrations needed for the multiple-input and multiple-output radar system are then determined, in order to reduce the computed deviations.

  • Patent number: 8676055
Abstract: A method of transmitting data using electromagnetic waves, comprising the steps of providing (101) a first electromagnetic signal (S1) having a first wavelength (?1) and a second electromagnetic signal (S2) having a second wavelength (?2) different from the first wavelength; dividing (102) each of the first (S1) and second (S2) electromagnetic signals into a first polarization component (S1x; S2x) having a first polarization direction and a second polarization component (S1y; S2y) having a second polarization direction orthogonal to the first polarization direction; modulating (103) the first polarization component (S1x) of the first electromagnetic signal (S1) to encode a first data stream (DS1); modulating (104) the second polarization component (S2y) of the second electromagnetic signal (S2) to encode a second data stream (DS2); and transmitting (105) a combined electromagnetic signal (Scomb) comprising the first and second polarization components of the first electromagnetic signal (S1) and the first and
