Patent number: 11391819Abstract: Techniques and systems are provided for performing object verification using radar images. For example, a first radar image and a second radar image are obtained, and features are extracted from the first radar image and the second radar image. A similarity is determined between an object represented by the first radar image and an object represented by the second radar image based on the features extracted from the first radar image and the features extracted from the second radar image. A determined similarity between these two sets of features is used to determine whether the object represented by the first radar image matches the object represented by the second radar image. Distances between the features in the two radar images can optionally also be compared and used to determine object similarity. The objects in the radar images may optionally be faces.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2019Date of Patent: July 19, 2022Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporateInventors: Michel Adib Sarkis, Ning Bi, Yingyong Qi, Amichai Sanderovich, Evyatar Hemo

Patent number: 10085148Abstract: A novel key management approach is provided for securing communication handoffs between an access terminal and two access points. An access terminal establishes a secure communication session with a first access point based on a first master session key based on a master transient key. The access terminal obtains a second access point identifier associated with a second access point and sends a message associated with a handoff to either the first access point or the second access point. The access terminal generates a second master session key based on at least the master transient key and the second access point identifier. The second master session key is used for secure communications with the second access point in connection with an intra-authenticator handoff from the first access point to the second access point. The access terminal then moves the secure communication session to the second access point.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2017Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporateInventor: Michaela Vanderveen

Patent number: 8868685Abstract: A system and method for a server to provide an early notification to a target group devices when paging a wireless device during a push-to-talk (PTT) communication. When a wireless device is ready to transmit a PTT communication, a message is sent from the wireless device to a server that then sends an early PING message to a base station while processing a call request message from the wireless device. After processing the call request message, the server sends an announce message to the base station. On receipt of the PING message, the base station sends a paging message to all targeted devices while processing the announce message. The early PING message causes a communication channel to be established between a targeted device and the base station, and the communication channel can then be used by the announce message with less set-up time.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2006Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporateInventor: Hamsini Bhaskaran

Patent number: 8634360Abstract: Providing for access point assisted signal acquisition for heterogeneous access point wireless networks is described herein. By way of example, a closed subscriber group (CSG) base station, such as a home NodeB (HNB) can be configured to provide temporary, limited access to a UE that is not authorized to access the HNB. Upon receiving and rejecting an access probe, the HNB can negotiate with a surrounding macro network to provide service for the UE. Further, the HNB can forward signal acquisition data, to assist in proper decoding of pilot or synchronization signals of the macro network. In particular aspects, the HNB can reduce power or blank transmissions on reserved access resources to reduce interference for the UE. By these and other disclosed mechanisms, the HNB can assist a non-CSG subscriber to obtain network service, and mitigate interference effects due to proximity to the UE.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2010Date of Patent: January 21, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporateInventors: Ke Liu, Xiaoxia Zhang, Taesang Yoo

Publication number: 20090247181Abstract: Techniques for mitigating interference in a wireless communication network are described. A terminal may desire to communicate with a weaker serving base station and may observe high interference from a strong interfering base station. The two base stations may be asynchronous and have different frame timing. In an aspect, high interference may be mitigated by having the interfering base station reserve downlink and/or uplink resources. The interfering base station may transmit at a low power level or not at all on the reserved downlink resources to reduce interference to the terminal. Terminals served by the interfering base station may transmit at a low power level or not at all on the reserved uplink resources to reduce interference at the serving base station. The terminal may then be able to communicate with the serving base station.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 23, 2009Publication date: October 1, 2009Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporateInventors: Ravi Palanki, Aamod D. Publication number: 20070127605Abstract: A method and apparatus for computing soft decision input metrics to a turbo decoder includes circuits associated with eight-ary phase shift keyed (8PSK) modulation and sixteen-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM). In both implementations log-likelihood ratio (LLR) metrics on code symbols are estimated as products of various constant values and various combinations of the in-phase and quadrature components of a demodulated soft decision. In the implementation associated with the 16QAM modulation scheme, an estimate of the carrier-signal-to-interference (C/I) ratio is also used to estimate some of the LLR metrics. Estimates of the LLR metrics may also be obtained in association with generalized square QAM and M-ary PSK modulation schemes including, e.g., 64QAM, 256QAM, and 16PSK.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 5, 2007Publication date: June 7, 2007Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporateInventor: Nagabhushana Sindhushayana

Patent number: 7127663Abstract: A system and method for bad frame indication of a speech frame includes estimating a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and checking a cyclic redundancy code (CRC) value of the speech frame. When the speech frame fails CRC error detection or the SNR is below a pre-specified value, a bad frame indication (BFI) flag is set. When the speech frame passes CRC error detection and the SNR is above the pre-specified value, a receive signal quality metric of the speech frame is checked against a high threshold and, if need be, a low threshold. The BFI flag and the receive signal quality metric for the previous speech frame is checked when the current receive signal quality metric is between the high and low thresholds. The BFI flag is set according to the value of the SNR, the CRC value, the current and previous receive signal quality metrics, and the previous BFI flag.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2003Date of Patent: October 24, 2006Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporateInventors: Mohammad J.
