Publication number: 20100142466Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate assigning uplink resources for utilization by a mobile device for sending an uplink signal in an uplink coordinated multi-point (CoMP) wireless communication environment. For instance, a hopping tree can be defined across base stations, and neighboring base stations can schedule interfering mobile devices upon uplink resources mapped to different nodes from the hopping tree. By way of another example, a plurality of hopping trees can be employed across base stations in the uplink CoMP wireless communication environment. Moreover, an acknowledgment can be sent to the mobile device upon downlink resources identified as a function of the uplink resources. Further, the downlink resources can be distinct from disparate downlink resources utilized for sending an acknowledgment to a disparate mobile device from a neighboring base station.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Ravi Palanki, Alexei Y. Publication number: 20100146315Abstract: Selective power control of one or more processing elements matches a degree of parallelism to requirements of a task performed in a highly parallel programmable data processor. For example, when program operations require less than the full width of the data path, a software instruction of the program sets a mode of operation requiring a subset of the parallel processing capacity. At least one parallel processing element, that is not needed, can be shut down to conserve power. At a later time, when the added capacity is needed, execution of another software instruction sets the mode of operation to that of the wider data path, typically the full width, and the mode change reactivates the previously shut-down processing element.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2010Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventor: Kenneth Alan Dockser

Publication number: 20100141313Abstract: A digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) supporting two-point modulation with adaptive delay matching is described. The DPLL includes highpass and lowpass modulation paths that support wideband and narrowband modulation, respectively, of the frequency and/or phase of an oscillator. The DPLL can adaptively adjust the delay of one modulation path to match the delay of the other modulation path. In one design, the DPLL includes an adaptive delay unit that provides a variable delay for one of the two modulation paths. Within the adaptive delay unit, a delay computation unit determines the variable delay based on a modulating signal applied to the two modulation paths and a phase error signal in the DPLL. An interpolator provides a fractional portion of the variable delay, and a programmable delay unit provides an integer portion of the variable delay.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 9, 2008Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: Jifeng Geng, Gary John Ballantyne, Daniel F. Publication number: 20100142556Abstract: Methods and apparatus related to packet fragmentation and reconstruction are described. A sequence of bits is generated including at least one header and at least partial packet payload prior to a determination of the actual data rate to be used in a communications segment. In some embodiments, the generated sequence of bits corresponds to a prepared information bit stream for a best case scenario in which the highest data rate is selected for segment. Various embodiments allow for the selection of the data rate to be used for the communications segment to be delayed until just prior to the transmission. Thus the selection of the data rate for the communications segment, and thus the segment capacity, can be based on more current channel condition information than would otherwise be possible if the communications device needed to know the data rate for the segment before performing header and packet fragmentation operations.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2008Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Hua Wang, Saurabh Tavildar, Vincent D. Publication number: 20100141400Abstract: Processes to achieve low power discovery and wake-up in the presence of desired 802.11 coverage are disclosed. In one aspect, probabilistic scanning for 802.11 SSID triggers is provided. In another aspect, the 802.11 Access Point (AP) is equipped with a Bluetooth inquiring device, which initiates the wake-up process with a special inquiry access code (IAC). The special IAC can comprise the AP's 802.11 channel. Additional optional sensors (GPS, Gyroscope, odometer, etc) are provided such that probabilistic scanning reduces power consumption and improves the likelihood that an 802.11 channel scan will find a desired SSID. A Bluetooth inquiry allows a discovery process to either wake-up immediately, or ascertain the need for host wake-up by exchanging further information with the AP. Probabilistic scanning allows the use of sensors and historical or pre-loaded information to improve the probability that 802.11 scanning is not required on individual channels, further driving down power needs.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: Andrei Radulescu, Peter H. Publication number: 20100144334Abstract: Providing for record filtering in distributed dynamic clustering algorithms for coordinated multipoint (CoMP) wireless communication is described herein. By way of example, strategy selection records distributed as part of a belief propagation network are pruned at recipient nodes, thereby reducing processing overhead for dynamic clustering. As a result, cooperative policies can be determined with greater efficiency, and with greater relevance to local clusters of cooperating base stations. In some aspects, record pruning can comprise identifying and discarding redundant or incompatible sets of policy decisions. In at least one aspect, a number of evaluated records can be capped based on relevance, while preserving deployment-wide applicability of the belief propagation network. Accordingly, dynamic distributed CoMP decisions are optimized on a deployment-wide scale that more efficiently converges to maximum utility solutions.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Alexei Y. Publication number: 20100142479Abstract: Techniques for improving the capacity of a wireless communications system using interference cancellation (IC). In an early decoding and IC aspect, a frame transmitted from a user to a base station may be decoded prior to the entire frame being received by the base station. The remaining portion of the frame may then be re-constructed at the base station prior to its reception, and cancelled from the receive signal to reduce the interference to frames received from other users. In a power control aspect for early decoding and IC, the power control target level at a local base station may be adjusted in response to successfully early decoding a frame, without affecting the overall outer loop power control operation. Further aspects include late decoding techniques for utilizing the IC of other users' signals to improve the probability of decoding a given user's frames, as well as techniques for traffic channel demodulation using channel re-estimation.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 22, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Peter J.
