Abstract: A process for treating lignocellulosic pieces with a water-soluble lignocellulosic material preservative. The process comprises the step of contacting the lignocellulosic pieces with a water-based preservative solution having a contact temperature between about 70° C. and about 95° C., the water-based preservative solution containing the water-soluble lignocellulosic material preservative in a concentration above about 25% wt. A lignocellulosic treatment apparatus for treating lignocellulosic pieces is also provided.

Abstract: The present invention provides solutions to the potential undesirable effects the insertion and removal of information elements and documents may have on arrays and axes of information elements using a collation function to determine the position of information elements thereon. The invention can be effectuated as a method, a device and an apparatus carrying out the method described herein.

Abstract: Some embodiments concern a lens for protection of one or more eyes of a user. The lens can include: a first surface; and a second surface spaced apart from the first surface such that the lens has a variable thickness between the first surface and the second surface. The first surface can include substantially an arc. The second surface can include a substantially elliptical curve and the lens can be a smooth, arcuate, substantially plano lens. Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention provides a method of applying a set function on documents in an axis-based interface, the method comprising grouping a plurality of documents in a plurality of axes of documents, the documents from each axis of documents having commonality, grouping a plurality of axes of documents in a group of axes of documents, the documents from the group of axes of documents being disposed along a collation function, wherein at least some of the axes of documents are adapted to be used by a set function adapted to mathematically collectively manipulate documents thereof. Groups of axes of documents are also adapted to be used by a set function adapted to mathematically collectively manipulate documents thereof.

Abstract: The use of chemically modified proteins as enteric or gastroresistant coatings for oral dosage forms containing an active ingredient is described. Typical enteric coatings are made from synthetic polymers and function by acting as a barrier to gastric medium penetration. In some cases, the manufacture of such coatings requires the use of hazardous chemicals and the safety of some of the synthetic polymers that have been used in enteric coatings have been questioned. Protein-based enteric coatings of the present description present a more natural alternative to enteric coatings produced from synthetic polymers to provide gastroresistance to oral dosage forms. Protein-based film-forming solutions and uses thereof in coating oral dosage forms are also provided.

Abstract: A cover for a liquid container having a body for holding a liquid and defining a body aperture has a mobile member connectable to a fixed structure relative to the aperture via a resilient outer membrane connected thereto, and an inner closing structure mountable in the body proximal the aperture and connected to the mobile member. The inner closing structure is movable, by application of an inwardly directed force to the mobile member, from a first configuration for the cover, in which the inner closing structure impedes passage of the liquid through the aperture, into a second configuration in which at least a portion of the aperture is unblocked and the liquid may flow therearound and out of the aperture for removal from the container. The membrane biases the inner closing structure and the mobile member into the first configuration for the cover.

Abstract: An aspect of the invention hereby presented provides a means to display a first set of, for instance, documents in conjunction with a second set of documents when the second set of documents would not necessarily fit in the query used to select the documents of the first set of documents and/or would not necessarily fit the collation of the first set of documents. The second set of documents so located in relationship with the first set of documents having a beneficial effect for the understanding of the first set of documents. A system and a GUI thereof is also hereby presented.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the preparation of pre-melted calcium aluminate for iron and steel treatment and protection by the fusion of aluminum dross residues, usually referred to as non-metallic products (NMP) containing variable levels of aluminum (Al) and aluminum nitride (AlN) with calcium carbonate at high temperature, under oxidizing atmosphere. Abstract: A shoulder orthosis for long term support of a patient's arm in postoperative shoulder immobilization posture for rotator cuff tears, comprising a waist belt, an arm splint, and a piston and cylinder assembly interconnecting the waist belt to the splint and biasing the splint to an abduction upper limit position. The orthosis provides stable support of the forearm about a horizontal plane, while enabling both pivotal movement of the arm about a vertical axis intersecting the patient's elbow and towards or away from the patient's torso within this horizontal plane. This orthosis also enables cyclical up and down motion of the splint, the downward motion being healthy adductor-assisted against the bias of the piston and cylinder assembly. A lock system releasably locks the piston and cylinder at a selected retracted position of the piston rod.
