  • Patent number: 11399720
Abstract: A method includes: acquiring temperature values from a plurality of temperature sensors spatially distributed within a device; using the temperature values, calculating skin temperature values corresponding to each of the temperature sensors; comparing the skin temperature values to a first temperature threshold; in response to determining that at least one of the skin temperature values exceeds the first temperature threshold, measuring temperature over time; comparing the temperature over time to a second temperature threshold; and in response to determining that the temperature over time exceeds the second temperature threshold, reducing power consumption of the device.

  • Patent number: 10117246
Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. One method includes determining that a cell operates in a shared access radio frequency spectrum, and transmitting signaling information to a mobile device indicating that the cell is prohibited from serving as a primary serving cell based at least in part on the determination that the cell operates in the shared access radio frequency spectrum. Another method includes receiving signaling information at a mobile device from a base station indicating that a cell operating in a shared access radio frequency spectrum is prohibited from serving as a primary serving cell, and identifying the cell as prohibited from serving as a primary serving cell based at least in part on the received signaling information. Another method includes identifying, by a mobile device, a cell operating in a shared access radio frequency spectrum as a secondary serving cell based at least in part on information stored on the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 9645959
Abstract: Fast link training in embedded systems is disclosed. In one aspect, a host takes advantage of situations in which the host is coupled to one or more static devices through a communication bus. In particular, because the one or more devices are static, the host may be provided with information about the one or more devices before start up, so that when the host does perform a start up, the host already knows which device(s) to expect. Accordingly, the host may directly query the expected device(s), and after receipt of response(s) from the expected device(s), may begin link training the expected device(s). By using the provided information about the expected device(s) in this fashion, the host may bypass or skip an initial signal detection step used by conventional link training processes. Bypassing the initial signal detection step may save time, which in turn saves power.

  • Patent number: 9384810
Abstract: A monolithic multi-channel resistive memory includes at least one first bank associated with a first channel and tuned according to first device attributes and/or first circuit attributes. The memory also includes at least one second bank associated with a second channel and tuned according to second device attributes and/or second circuit attributes.

  • Publication number: 20120069937
Abstract: Wireless receiver circuits and methods include algorithms for switching between a least-squares/minimum mean-square error method of channel estimation known as the CE algorithm, and a continuous plot method of channel estimation known as the CPCE algorithm based upon channel characteristics to improve reception of wireless communications in different reception conditions. In an embodiment, the CPCE algorithm may be selected by a processor for use in channel estimation when a calculated number of candidate paths is less than or equal to a first threshold value, a calculated power ratio of the L strongest paths to the total of all paths is greater than or equal to a second threshold value, and the maximum Automatic Gain Control variation is greater than or equal to a third threshold value. Threshold values may be based on field testing, and set to values at which the CE or CPCE algorithm exhibits better performance.

  • Patent number: 7899396
Abstract: Techniques to enable efficient operation of co-located WLAN and Bluetooth devices are described. A station (e.g., a cellular phone or a laptop computer) determines the activity of a Bluetooth device and ascertains idle periods of the Bluetooth device. The station communicates with an access point in a WLAN during the idle periods of the Bluetooth device. The station may operate in a power save mode with the access point, send a poll frame to the access point during an idle period, and retrieve the buffered data from the access point during the idle period. The station may also operate in an unscheduled APSD mode with the access point, send a trigger frame to the access point during an idle period to start a service period, and exchange data with the access point during the service period.

  • Patent number: 7542444
Abstract: A scheme is provided for indexing and storing radio bearer configurations for a UMTS wireless communication network, such as a UTRAN. A radio network controller maintains a list of radio bearer configurations and an identifier for each configuration. One or more of these configurations and their identifiers are sent to a mobile terminal in the network. The mobile terminal stores these configurations and identifiers for future reference. This enables an on-the-fly configuration scheme in which the network controller can reference a particular stored configuration by its identifier to cause the mobile terminal to use that configuration to setup wireless transmitter and/or receiver. The identifiers may have contiguous values so that the network controller can transmit a range (e.g., starting identifier and ending identifier) to the mobile terminal rather than each identifier. When a configuration is modified or removed, the network controller may reassign identifiers to maintain contiguous values.
