Patent number: 11439362Abstract: A method and system acquiring, processing and displaying breast ultrasound images in a way that makes breast ultrasound screening more practical and thus more widely used, and reduces the occurrence of missing cancers in screening and diagnosis, using automated scanning of chestwardly compressed breasts with ultrasound. Enhanced, whole-breast navigator overview images are produced from scanning breasts with ultrasound that emphasize abnormalities in the breast while excluding obscuring influences of non-breast structures, particularly those external to the breast such as ribs and chest wall, and differentiating between likely malignant and likely benign abnormalities and otherwise enhancing the navigator overview image and other images, thereby reducing the time to read, screen, and/or diagnose to practical time limits and also reduce screening or diagnostic errors.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2019Date of Patent: September 13, 2022Assignee: QView Medical, Inc.Inventors: Wei Zhang, Shih-Ping Wang, Alexander Schneider, Harlan Romsdahl, Thomas Neff

Patent number: 9498184Abstract: An apparatus and a method are disclosed for obtaining ultrasound images of a patient's breast that is chestwardly compressed with a template that is essentially planar and rotates relative to the breast while one or more ultrasound transducers moving with the template take 2D images of the breast through one or more respective radially oriented slots in the template, preferably through a membrane that is porous to a gel. The 2D images are processed into slice images representing breast slices of desired thicknesses and orientation that are displayed alone or with some of the 2D images, preferably pairs of orthogonally disposed 2D images.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2013Date of Patent: November 22, 2016Assignee: QVIEW MEDICAL, INC.Inventor: Shih-Ping Wang

Patent number: 9289183Abstract: Methods and related systems provide an interactive user interface in which CAD results are displayed in such a way that they may be used for both interpretation of detected abnormalities and for avoiding perceptual oversights. The output of a (multi-view) computer aided detection system is presented to the reader of a screening case in two phases: (1) an interactive phase, and (2) a prompting phase. In the first phase the reader can probe image locations for CAD information. In the second phase regions identified as relevant by the CAD system and not yet probed by the reader are prompted or displayed to the user, as these may have been overlooked by the reader. The CAD results can be calibrated to a probability of malignancy.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2009Date of Patent: March 22, 2016Assignee: QVIEW MEDICAL, INC.Inventors: Nico Karssemeijer, Shih-Ping Wang

Publication number: 20120014578Abstract: Methods and related systems are described for detection of breast cancer in 3D ultrasound imaging data. Volumetric ultrasound images are obtained by an automated breast ultrasound scanning (ABUS) device. In ABUS images breast cancers appear as dark lesions. When viewed in transversal and sagittal planes, lesions and normal tissue appear similar as in traditional 2D ultrasound. However, architectural distortion and spiculation are frequently seen in the coronal views, and these are strong indicators of the presence of cancer. The described computerized detection (CAD) system combines a dark lesion detector operating in 3D with a detector for spiculation and architectural distortion operating on 2D coronal slices. In this way a sensitive detection method is obtained. Techniques are also described for correlating regions of interest in ultrasound images from different scans such in different scans of the same breast, scans of a patient's right versus left breast, and scans taken at different times.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2010Publication date: January 19, 2012Applicant: QView Medical, Inc.Inventors: Nico Karssemeijer, Wei Zhang
