The gateway (300) comprises a first server (306) comprising a first management layer (308). The first server (306) is configured to communicate with a first end device (302a), communicate with the remote server (316) comprising a second management layer (320), and be selectively operable in either a first state wherein the first management layer (308) controls the first server (306), or a second state wherein the second management layer (320) controls the first server (306).
