Abstract: A system configured to monitor a primary battery and a backup battery in a vehicle. The system includes one or more active components, such as a controller, that switch power between the primary battery and the backup battery. The system is configured to switch power from the primary battery to the backup battery when the power level of the primary battery drops below a threshold level. The system is generally implemented on a vehicle having an internal combustion engine. Power from the primary battery is used to start the engine. The backup battery is typically a swappable and interchangeable battery, such as a cordless power tool battery. In one example, the vehicle does not include an alternator.

  • Patent number: 12181777
Abstract: An aesthetic camera housing including a base and a mount. The base and mount each define one or more fastener holes sized and shaped to accept a fastener. The base defines a camera channel with two openings positioned proximate the rear and bottom surfaces and the mount defines a camera hole through its top and bottom surface. When the bottom surface of the base and the top surface of the mount are flush with one another, the camera channel and mount camera hole are in fluid communication with each other, and a camera can be inserted therein. The fastener holes of the base and mount are in fluid communication allowing the base and mount to be fastened together. The base also includes an aesthetically pleasing feature. The mount is formed from a transparent material and retains a LED within whose light penetrates the mount and also increases aesthetic appeal.

  • Patent number: 12157411
Abstract: A steering wheel instrument assembly includes a button assembly having a microprocessor and a push-button switch. A function table has a unified format code associated with the push-button switch and indicates a desired vehicle operation. The assembly includes a vehicle protocol adapter module having another microprocessor with a second function table having the unified format code associated with an OEM format code. The microprocessor of the button assembly retrieves the unified format code when the push-button switch is activated and sends the unified format code to the vehicle protocol adapter module. The vehicle protocol adapter module retrieves the OEM format code from the second function table in response to receiving the unified format code and sends the OEM format code to an engine control unit.

  • Patent number: 11673623
Abstract: An improved master cylinder for use with a hydraulic clutch or hydraulic brake system. The master cylinder has a master cylinder body defining a bore. A piston is configured to slide in the bore when an actuation lever is compressed by a user. Sliding of the piston as a result of the depression of the lever causes the piston to depress a spring and to increase hydraulic pressure in the hydraulic line leading to the brake or clutch. A spring is configured to return the piston when pressure is released from the actuation lever. The master cylinder body in some embodiments is configured for lateral position adjustment relative to a mounting bracket. In some embodiments the master cylinder has a reservoir. The reservoir can be oriented at a tilted angle relative to the body of the master cylinder. In further embodiments the master cylinder has an outlet nut that is configured for attachment to the hydraulic line.

  • Patent number: 11524672
Abstract: An electric motor drive retrofit system (EMDRS) comprises a power system, an energy storage system (ESS), a cooling system, a vehicle control unit (VCU), and a user interface device (UID). A non-hybrid combustion engine drive vehicle with tight space constraints is retrofittable with the EMDRS to provide hybrid drive functionality. EMDRS includes a motor generator unit (MGU) coupled to a motor control unit that transfers charge between MGU and ESS. During retrofit, the MGU is coupled between a transmission and an internal combustion engine (ICE) of the vehicle without extending a powertrain length by more than five inches. VCU does not interfere with any pre-existing vehicle electronics. The VCU controls the EMDRS to add torque (discharging ESS) or to remove torque (charging the ESS) based on a selected operating mode and vehicle sensor information (for example, brake and throttle pressure). Operating modes are selected by driver via the UID.
