Abstract: A system and methods for the migration of complex computer applications and the workloads comprising them between physical, virtual, and cloud servers that span a hybrid cloud environment comprising private local and remote customer data centers and public cloud data centers, without modification to the applications, their operational environments, or user access procedures. A virtual network manager securely extends the subnets and VLANS within the customer's various data center across the distributed, hybrid environment using overlay networks implemented with virtual network appliances at nodes of the overlay network. A server migrater migrates individual workloads of servers used by the complex application from one pool of server resources to another. A migration manager application provides a control interface, and also maps and manages the resources of the complex application, the hybrid environment, and the virtual network spanning the hybrid cloud environment.

The method includes a file server that is accessible to all communicating processes. The file server provides a secure mailbox for each managed process. The mailbox is used to hold messages that are stored as individual files. The management and managed processes communicate by writing and reading files in the mailbox of the managed process. The stateless manner of the message-based communications makes it easy to replicate the management process in order to provide scalability and fault-tolerance for the management functions.

Abstract: Systems and methods for migrating a server image between any physical, virtual, and cloud servers. The system includes a deploy agent that is run on the target server, a migration manager to control operations, an image library for optional long-term storage of the image, and mailbox-based communications mechanism to support management operations spanning multiple data centers and firewalls. While deploying an image to the target server, the deploy agent automatically adjusts the image to account for changes in server hardware, storage layout, and network infrastructure to ensure that any applications within the image continue to function properly.

Abstract: A management tool that streamlines the server allocation and provisioning processes within a data center is provided. The system, method, and computer program product divide the server provisioning and allocation into two separate tasks. Provisioning a server is accomplished by generating a fully configured, bootable system image, complete with network address assignments, virtual LAN (VLAN) configuration, load balancing configuration, and the like. System images are stored in a storage repository and are accessible to more than one server. Allocation is accomplished using a switching mechanism which matches each server with an appropriate system image based upon current configuration or requirements of the data center. Thus, real-time provisioning and allocation of servers in the form of automated responses to changing conditions within the data center is possible.
