Publication number: 20030078104Abstract: An illuminator is provided for use with a hand-held electronic device such as a gaming device. The illuminator includes at least one light attached to one or more brackets which are rotatably secured to the gaming device. When the illumination device is in use, the lights may be moved to various positions, thereby preventing a user's view of a screen from being obstructed and also producing off-axis sources of illumination from various angles. These angles can be changed to minimize glare, to allow the screen to be viewed from various positions or otherwise to suit the needs of the user. The brackets may be moved to positions which conform with the sides of the gaming device. When the brackets are positioned in this manner, they do not increase the overall thickness of the gaming device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2001Publication date: April 24, 2003Applicant: Radica Games Ltd.Inventor: Wing Hang Lee

Publication number: 20030045352Abstract: A handheld game controller for use with a dedicated game system, personal computer, or other device is provided. The game controller includes two user grippable portions, typically a pair of handles, which the user holds during game play. As a result of this configuration, during use the game controller neither rests on nor becomes attached to a rigid surface such as a desk, tabletop, or other stationary object. In one aspect, one handle of the game controller is held by one of the user's hands while the second handle of the game controller, held by the user's other hand, is free to rotate within the predetermined rotational limits of the device. In a typical application, right direction and left direction control signals are sent to the game system or personal computer as a result of clockwise rotation and counter-clockwise rotation of the second handle of the game controller, respectively. A sensor coupled to the second handle generates the control signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2001Publication date: March 6, 2003Applicant: Radica Games Ltd.Inventors: Simon Ireland, James Woodward, Ho Yiu Cheung, Kevin D.
