Abstract: A method and system for fighting a fire or a temperature rise in a material stored in a large storage facility such as a silo or a similar closed storage building for a biomass material, the method including detecting a fire or temperature rise in the stored material of the storage facility with detecting means, and applying liquid nitrogen to the interior of the storage facility from a firefighting system in the facility wherein the amount of applied liquid nitrogen is controlled with control means in relation to one or more values of the facility and/or stored material.
