  • Patent number: 6832691
Abstract: A magnetic separator system comprises a feed chute having an adjustable feed chute floor portion for controlling the release of discharge slurry from the feed chute onto a rotating magnetic drum separator. Adjusting the adjustable chute floor portion controls where discharge slurry released from the feed chute contacts the outer surface of the drum, allowing the contact point to be maintained for optimal separation simply through such adjustments. Precise control over flow of discharge slurry onto the drum notwithstanding variations in flow of discharge slurry permits the system to use an open construction, which is more compact and which reduces wear and abrasion and makes the system more accessible for repair. The field of attraction from magnets within the drum extends not only around the circumference of the drum, but also into the feed chute over the adjustable feed chute floor portion.

  • Patent number: 6708828
Abstract: A ferrous metal object separator is removably attachable to a conveyor which transports a moving stream of non-ferrous material (e.g. wood chips) in which some ferrous metal objects (e.g. screws, nuts, broken machinery parts, spikes, nails, steel filings, steel chips, etc.) may be commingled. The separator, which has a non-ferrous body, has an inclined surface extending upwardly from a leading edge to an abrupt trailing edge. A separating magnet embedded adjacent the separator's trailing edge magnetically retains the ferrous metal objects without substantially impeding transport of the non-ferrous material along the conveyor. A fastening magnet embedded in the separator removably magnetically fastens the separator on the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 6303241
Abstract: A wear plate retainer having upper and lower layers. The lower layer is formed of a relatively soft, shock-absorbent material and the upper layer is formed of a relatively hard, impact and abrasion resistant material. A plurality of magnets are embedded in the upper layer to removably magnetically retain a wear plate atop the upper layer. A pair of pole pieces are positioned on opposed sides of each magnet and embedded in the upper layer. The pole pieces extend above the magnet, protecting it from impact forces. The pole pieces also focus the magnetic field forces emanating from the magnet. The magnets are arranged in rows, with adjacent poles of adjacent pairs of magnets in adjacent pairs of the rows having alternate polarity. The rows are parallel to one another and extend transversely to the direction in which material flows across the wear plate.

  • Patent number: 6027057
Abstract: A grinding mill liner having inward and outward layers. The outward layer is formed of a relatively soft, shock-absorbent material and the inward layer is formed of a relatively hard, impact and abrasion resistant material. A plurality of magnets are embedded in the inward layer. A pair of pole pieces are positioned on opposed sides of each magnet and embedded in the inward layer. The pole pieces extend above the magnet, protecting it from the impact forces to which the liner is subjected during operation of the grinding mill. The pole pieces also focus the magnetic field forces emanating from the magnet. The magnets are arranged in rows, with adjacent poles of adjacent pairs of magnets within each row having alternate polarity; and, with adjacent poles of adjacent pairs of magnets in adjacent pairs of the rows having alternate polarity. The rows are parallel to one another and extend transversely to the direction in which material flows across the liner during operation of the grinding mill.
