    Abstract: A method is disclosed which allows the user of a software program to create a 3-dimensional model from a 2-dimensional source image. The method includes: providing a 3-dimensional environment to contain the model, placing the 2-dimensional source image within the environment as a layer, providing tools for the user to extract portions of the image onto additional layers, providing tools for the user to change the depth of vertices within the layers.
