  • Patent number: 5143129
Abstract: A veneer lathe including a knife blade which is adjustable to different pitch angles. The veneer lathe includes a feed carriage mounted for movement on guides fixed to a lathe frame and a blade carriage supporting the knife blade. The blade carriage is a massive member pivotally mounted by trunnions on the feed carriage so as to rotate under the force of gravity. A support device is operative between the feed carriage and the blade carriage for supporting the blade carriage against the force of gravity in an angularly biased position relative to the feed carriage. The lathe also includes a control responsive to different types of wood for allowing the means for supporting the blade carriage to retract at different rates under the force of gravity exerted on the blade carriage.

  • Patent number: 5067534
Abstract: The invention concerns a spindle drive for a veneer lathe. In view of reducing the mobile masses of the drive gear equipment making the lathe better adaptable to different log lengths, the opposite spindles in the lathe are provided with drive motors of their own. In the preferred embodiment, the rotor of the motor is mounted directly on the spindle and the stator is mounted on a frame unit displaceable on guides. The motor may be an electric motor provided with speed regulation, or it may be a hydraulic motor.

  • Patent number: 4638843
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a method for the manufacture of a laminated beam out of sheets of veneer as a continous process. According to the method, the sheets of veneer are stacked, in consideration of the sequence of stacking, as glued or non-glued as a continuous setting consisting of a number of layers corresponding to the desired thickness of the beam on a suitable transfer base. This setting is passed on the base into a preliminary press, pressed in the preliminary press, as well as passed into a hot press (2) for the purpose of hardening the glue. In order to permit a more efficient operation of the hot press, in the method a continuous gap (3) free of adhesive and having a width equal to the width of the whole setting is produced in the setting between at least two desired layers of veneer, along which said gap the beam blank is divided (4), after the stage of preliminary pressing, into separate blank lines. The blank lines are then passed into hot-press gaps of their own.

  • Patent number: 4637599
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a suction-lifting conveyor for the transfer of sheet-shaped objects, in particular of sheets of plywood veneer (4), one by one from a stack to further processing or to another stack. The device comprises a box-shaped suction-channel equipment (1) extending substantially over the entire length and width of the conveyor, blower means (2) for maintaining a negative pressure in the suction-channel system, endless belts (3) performing the transfer of the sheets and running substantially horizontally above the stacks of sheets, the said belts being arranged so that during their transfer movement they run against the outside of the bottom face of the suction-channel system, being subject to the effect of the negative pressure in the suction-channel system, and that during their return movement they run in the suction-channel system.
