  • Patent number: 4586847
Abstract: A road compacting drum is equipped with a dual amplitude, rotational, vibratory mechanism. A shaft rotatably mounted on the drum supports eccentric weights. Casings secured to the shaft adjacent the weights have chambers accommodating fluent mass. The fluent mass comprise metal members, as steel balls, shot or liquid metal, that move to a first location in the chamber upon rotation of the shaft in one direction to increase the amplitude of the vibration of the shaft and drum. The fluent mass flows to a second location in the chamber in response to rotation of the shaft in a direction opposite the one direction to generally balance the shaft to reduce the amplitude of vibration of the shaft and drum.

  • Patent number: 4482285
Abstract: A cargo container handling assembly mounted on the lift beam of a mobile vehicle to transport and stack a cargo container. A bridge secured to the lift means accommodates a pair of vertically movable supports. Struts carried by the supports have balls on their upper and lower ends for movably supporting a carrier adapted to be locked onto a cargo container. Fluid operated cylinders are selectively operable to provide the carrier with tilt, skew, lateral shift, and fore and aft movements. Fluid motors are operable to selectively raise and lower the supports to change the elevation of the spreader independent of the lift beam and provide the carrier with pile slope movements.

  • Patent number: 4427334
Abstract: A load handling and transporting vehicle is provided with a load handling apparatus movable from a compact low profile position to an extended position. The load handling apparatus has a main lift beam pivotally connected to a link and control beam. A second link connects the control beam to the frame. Piston and cylinder assemblies connected to the main lift beam and frame operate to move the main lift beam, links, and control beam from adjacent nested positions to extended positions. A cargo container carrier is mounted on a third link pivotally connected to the forward ends of the main lift beam and control beams.

  • Patent number: 4266904
Abstract: A spreader frame assembly for connecting onto large, elongate loads such as shipping containers and trailer vans for lifting and moving such loads. The assembly includes a trolley mounted on a straddle carrier with a spreader frame supported beneath the trolley. A positioning column descends from the trolley and makes a swivel connection at the middle of the spreader frame, and a pair of load lifting hydraulic cylinders mounted on the trolley connect at widely spaced points with the spreader frame. A rotate cylinder between the spreader frame and positioning column rotates the frame around a vertical axis, a tilt cylinder also between the spreader frame and column tilts the frame around a horizontal axis, and a translating cylinder between the trolley and column pivots the column to translate the spreader frame.

  • Patent number: 4113034
Abstract: A uniaxial vibratory force generator especially adapted for use as a pile driver, which comprises a rigid frame structure having a power actuated clamp at its bottom by which the frame structure grips a pile, and attachment means at its top by which the frame structure is suspended from above. In the frame structure are two superimposed pairs of counter-rotating eccentric weights, each of which is driven by a hydraulic motor. Simultaneous rotation of all of the eccentric weights produces a uniaxial force of a magnitude determined by the phase relationship between the superimposed pairs of eccentric weights. An adjustable coupling between the superimposed pairs of eccentric weights enables that phase relationship to be selectively varied.

  • Patent number: 4043422
Abstract: An electro-hydraulic steering system for vehicles such as roller type surface compacting machines which have a steerable ground-engaging unit at each end of the chassis. The system combines a conventional orbital type steering valve, two conventional solenoid actuated hydraulic valves and two conventional lock valves with an electric control circuit that includes simple console-mounted selector switches, a foot pedal-controlled switch and a simple cam-actuated switch that is automatically actuated in consequence of shifting the control lever of the vehicle's transmission from "forward" to "reverse" and vice versa, in a manner which gives the operator unprecedented flexibility in his choice of steering mode.

  • Patent number: 3947142
Abstract: A tandem drum-type pavement compacting machine having front and rear drums journaled in substantially identical yokes, each of which is connected with the chassis of the machine for steering rotation about a vertical axis which intersects the axis of its respective drum midway of its axial width, and wherein the front end portion of the chassis to which the yoke of the front drum is steerably connected, is joined to the main section of the chassis by a trunnion or swivel connection that provides for relative oscillation or rocking motion between the front and rear drums about a horizontal axis extending fore and aft along the centerline of the machine and intersecting the vertical steering axes of the drums. An operator's platform is fixed with respect to the yoke of the rear drum and overlies the rear portion of the main section of the chassis.
