  • Patent number: 4307992
Abstract: A load handling vehicle includes a bucket side tilt mechanism with a supporting H-framework comprised of first and second side frame members and a cross-frame member. The side frame members are each coupled at a first end to the body of the vehicle and at a second end to the bucket, while the cross-frame member is pivoted at each end to a respective one of the side frame members so that the cross-frame member pivots during tilting of the bucket and relieves stress on the framework. A pair of dump cylinders coupled between the framework and bucket are provided for emptying the bucket. In addition, a hoist cylinder extends between the framework and the body of the vehicle, at each side of the vehicle, for raising and lowering the framework and thereby the bucket. A tilt cylinder is tandem with one of these hoist cylinders is extended and retracted to tip the framework and in turn tilt the bucket relative to horizontal as desired.

  • Patent number: 4217076
Abstract: A load-lifting mechanism at the front of a lift truck carries an upright boom with a pair of parallel spaced-apart forwardly cantilevered boom portions rotatably supporting a horizontal pivot tube between their forward ends. A vertical pivot shaft rotatably carried by the pivot tube suspends a grapple beneath the cantilevered boom portions. The grapple includes a yoke mounting and a pair of grapple arms opened and closed by single or dual hydraulic cylinders. A mechanical link interconnects the grapple arms so that they open and close together and to the same extent. A pair of fluid cylinders on the cantilever boom portions pivot the pivot tube to swing the shaft and grapple fore and aft. A rotation mechanism between the cantilever boom portions and their cylinders rotates the pivot shaft and connected grapple about the axis of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4213726
Abstract: A transport vehicle particularly useful for industrial uses and adapted to pick up, carry and subsequently dump a load-carrying receptacle comprising a U-shaped wheel-carried outer frame towed by a tractor which supports an inner U-shaped frame for picking up the receptacle. Vertical rear hoist cylinders elevate the inner U-shaped frame and rotate it about retracted dump cylinders to raise the inner U-shaped frame from an initial horizontal ground-level position to a forwardly tilted travel position. The dump cylinders can then tilt the inner frame about a pivot axis at its rear end to empty cargo from the receptacle. Latching and restraining mechanisms are provided to prevent the receptacle from tipping backward and sliding rearwardly with respect to the inner frame when dumping its load. The latching and restraining mechanisms are gravity-controlled and become inoperative when the inner frame resumes its forwardly tilted travel position.

  • Patent number: 4106646
Abstract: A lift truck has a log handling carriage head carried by a vertically movable boom. The boom is pivoted to the truck frame below the operator's cab to provide a clear line of sight from the cab along the top of the boom to the carriage head in any position of the boom. The carriage head comprises a pair of independently operable, vertically disposed, transversely separated, articulated claws. The claws are pivoted to opposite side extensions of the outer end of the boom for improved visibility to the load. Each claw includes a generally upstanding main carriage member, a fork extending forwardly from a lower end of such member, and a tusk curving forwardly and downwardly from the upper end of such member. The fork and main carriage member of each claw pivot about a common transverse axis, and the vertical angle of each fork is adjustable independently of the other by pivoting its associated main carriage member independently of the other such member.

  • Patent number: 4016992
Abstract: The load-lifting mechanism at the front of a lift truck carries a vertical boom with a forwardly cantilevered boom portion rotatably mounting a vertical pivot shaft at its forward end. The shaft suspends a rotatable carriage frame beneath the cantilevered boom portion. A larger pickup carriage frame with downwardly extending pickup arms is suspended by chains from the rotatable carriage frame. The upper ends of one pair of pickup arms are pivoted for limited movement transversely of the longitudinal axis of the carriage frames and for upwardly swinging movement to positions alongside the carriage frames. Fluid cylinders on the rotatable frame adjust the pickup frame for side shifting, end shifting, transverse sloping and longitudinal sloping movement.
