  • Patent number: 11929619
Abstract: A stored energy power source uses a wound-rotor induction machine (WRIM) to receive energy from a prime mover via a rotating shaft, provide magnetization reactive energy from a self-excited AC capacitor bank, store the energy in N energy storage elements (ESEs) via tertiary windings, and discharge the ESEs to deliver energy via a secondary winding to a load producing output. Each discharging ESE contributes to a total flux at the secondary winding to sum the individual ESEs voltages. These voltages can be stepped up or down by a transformation ratio between the secondary winding and each of the tertiary windings. A flywheel may be coupled to the shaft to store and delivery kinetic energy. Load factor power control can be used to stabilize the output voltage. The source may be configured to allow for the bi-directional flow of energy between the ESEs, the flywheel and the load. The WRIM provides a safe, reliable and efficient system to provide high-level AC and DC output voltages.

  • Patent number: 11921284
Abstract: A zoom system includes a collection optic L1 and a reflective Fresnel Lens L2 having a variable focal length. The reflective Fresnel Lens L2 is implemented with a MEMS MMA in which the mirrors tip, tilt and piston form and alter the reflective Fresnel Lens to focus light at a common focal point to set the variable focal length f2, hence the magnification M. In different embodiments, the zoom system may be configured to be “focal” or “afocal”. In the focal system, both L1 and L2 are fixed such that the system affects the net convergence or divergence of the magnified beam. In an afocal system, a mechanism is used to translate L2 to maintain a separation between L1 and L2 of d=f1+f2 as f2 is varied to change the magnification M.

  • Patent number: 11923604
Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to using a plurality of antennas radially distributed about a rotatable turret to sequentially scan a field of view. Each of the plurality of antennas directs an electromagnetic beam and senses its reflection along a principal direction defined by a roll position of the rotatable turret and an azimuthal beam angle. The principal directions of the antennas have a unique azimuthal beam angle relative to a boresight (i.e., axis of rotation). As the turret rotates, each of these antennas is sequentially turned on at a first roll position and off at a second roll position. This enables electromagnetic beams generated by the antennas to pan a scene both in azimuth and roll. An image processor then determines, based on the reflected signals received by the plurality of antennas, directions to and/or velocities of objects within the scanned field of view.

  • Patent number: 11920718
Abstract: A low-profile fluid manifold includes a tunable passive flow control system through intricate internal flow channels. The low-profile fluid manifold is manufactured using stereolithography (SLA) additive manufacturing to rapidly produce and tune the intricate flow channels to achieve the desired flow characteristics. Further, SLA additive manufacturing is used to build up inlet and outlet orifices in the flow direction, creating sealing surfaces for parallel oriented seals and sealing surfaces. The low-profile fluid manifold is manufactured to be air and liquid tight at the required operating pressures, temperatures, and environments, without the use of traditional fittings.

  • Patent number: 11915677
Abstract: A sensor suspension system for use in an underwater environment comprises a sensor (e.g., vector sensor) and a framework comprising a plurality of support structures, and a plurality of compliant devices that suspend the sensor within an inner volume of the framework. The plurality of compliant devices facilitate a symmetrical sensing response of the sensor in three degrees of freedom when deployed in the underwater environment. The framework is moveable from a collapsed position to an expanded position. A plurality of sensor suspension systems can be tethered together into a sensor array by a deployment control system operable to release a buoyant device, tethered to the sensor suspension systems, that vertically positions the plurality of sensor suspension systems into the sensor array. The buoyant device can cause each framework to expand via pulling force through the tethers upon release of the buoyant device.

  • Patent number: 11915435
Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method of image cross-correlation improves the sub-pixel accuracy of the correlation surface and subsequent processing thereof. One or both of the template or search windows are resampled using the fractional portions of the correlation offsets X and Y produced by the initial image cross-correlation. The resampled window is then correlated with the other original window to produce a resampled cross-correlation surface. Removing the fractional or sub-pixel offsets between the template and search windows improves the “sameness” of the represented imagery thereby improving the quality and accuracy of the correlation surface, which in turn improves the quality and accuracy of the FOM or other processing of the correlation surface. The process may be iterated to improve accuracy or modified to generate resampled cross-correlation surfaces for multiple possible offsets and to accept the one with the most certainty.

  • Patent number: 11912437
Abstract: A universal payload manipulation tool employs a segmented ring captured in a telescoping cradle to perform the positioning functions of both a workstation and a loading adapter. The ring rotates over a range of 360 degrees to perform the position functions of the workstation. With the upper ring segment removed, the telescoping cradle rotates and the lower ring segment rotates and extends from the telescoping cradle over a combined range of rotation to position the payload at a specified angle for unloading to perform the position functions of a loading adapter. This configuration allows the universal tool to access confined spaces while supporting a range of rotation required in many applications for unloading the payload (loading the payload to another platform such as an aircraft). The manipulation tool may also be configured as only a loading adapter.

  • Publication number: 20240060542
Abstract: A shock isolator is arranged between two automated coupler parts in a vibration testing unit. When the coupler parts are engaged and coupled during vibration testing of a component, the shock isolator is disabled, and when the coupler parts are disengaged and decoupled after vibration testing, the shock isolator is activated to absorb excess shock energy and prevent shock transfer between the coupler parts that would damage the test component. The shock isolator includes a bushing that is inserted in a lower part of the two automated coupler parts and a compressive fit rod that is press-fit into the bushing. The bushing has a chamfered volume and the compressive fit rod has a corresponding compressible volume that is displaced into the chamfered volume to disable the shock isolator. After vibration testing, the compressive fit rod is expandable to a regular shape to activate the shock isolator.
