  • Publication number: 20080268835
Abstract: A wireless communication system comprising first and second transceivers. The first transceiver communicate with a base station, wherein the base station communicates with the first transceiver and a plurality of other wireless communication devices according to a wide area wireless communication protocol. The second transceiver is coupled to the first transceiver and communicates with a first mobile station, wherein the second transceiver communicates with the first mobile station according to a local area wireless communication protocol. The first transceiver receives from the base station a first downlink signal intended for the first mobile station and transmits the first downlink signal to the second transceiver. The second transceiver re-transmits the first downlink signal to the first mobile station as a second downlink signal according to the local area wireless communication protocol.

  • Publication number: 20080259868
Abstract: A wireless communication system is provided that includes a base station and a routing map. The base station is in wireless communication with a plurality of wireless networks. The routing map stores information relating to a location of a mobile station in wireless communication with a first wireless network. The base station receives a signal for the mobile station and transmits the signal to only the first wireless network, according to information retrieved from the routing map related to the location of the mobile station. The wireless network may be a wireless local area network. A handover of the mobile station from the first wireless network to a second wireless network may be made based upon a measured signal characteristic between the mobile station and the first and second wireless networks.

  • Publication number: 20080259826
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for providing WLAN (wireless local area network) service through a fixed wireless access communication system. WLAN transceivers are fixed in position at subscriber stations of the fixed wireless access communication system. Each WLAN transceiver defines a coverage area. Through appropriate positioning of the WLAN transceivers at the subscriber stations, overlapping coverage areas are formable and between which handovers of communications with a mobile station are effectuated when a mobile station travels out of one coverage area and into another coverage area.

  • Publication number: 20080261588
Abstract: TDD access equipment modified by introducing a frequency change at the normal TDD guard point, with respective downlink or uplink periods for individual subscriber stations offset to form overlapping frames. Cyclo-stationary processing, block equalization, and burst timing coordination allow the boundary between downlink and uplink portions of both frames to be set dynamically, improving spectral efficiency. Fast frequency switching within an allotted physical slot enables synchronization of time-sharing the dedicated frequencies to be maintained among subscriber stations. Duplex spacing between downlink and uplink frequencies for individual subscriber stations, combined with in-depth filtering of received signals, prevents spurious out-of-band transmission signal strength from reaching an interference level.

  • Publication number: 20080254801
Abstract: A wireless communication system has a plurality of subscriber stations linked by radio with a network infrastructure coupled to a correspondent node. A call is originated at a subscriber station apparatus. The apparatus includes a call establishment message generator coupled to receive an origination indication of the call. The call establishment message generator generates a call establishment message to initiate call set-up procedures that precurse a request to establish the call between the subscriber station and the correspondent node. The apparatus also includes a response detector coupled to receive an indication of a network-infrastructure generated response to the call establishment message. The response detector detects whether the response to the call establishment message indicates that communication resources are available to establish the call. The apparatus further includes a call set-up emulator coupled to the response detector.

  • Patent number: 7069047
Abstract: On-line insertion of line replaceable units (such as circuit board cards) into a backplane of a processor shelf, a modem shelf, or a similar type of equipment utilizes at least one interface control processor card that is capable of functioning as a primary master controller to control the insertion of circuit board cards into the backplane. Circuit board cards that are newly inserted into the backplane do not automatically have access to full power, or to the buses, or to other cards in the backplane. A newly inserted circuit board card remains isolated until the primary master controller checks, configures, and authorizes the newly inserted circuit board card to operate. A secondary master controller is provided to function as the primary master controller if the primary master controller fails. An automated boot procedure is provided to enable a circuit board card to determine whether it is a master controller, and if so, whether it is a primary master controller or a secondary master controller.

  • Patent number: 7065098
Abstract: Data which must be memory equalized across a redundant, high availability system utilizing processor-based components is structured in memory segments which form data packets for a data link between active and standby components. Direct memory access is employed to copy memory segments within the active component into a queue for the data link, which transfers memory segments without utilizing the processor within the active component while automatically verifying data integrity and acknowledging successful data transfers. The direct memory access copying of memory segments to the queue may be triggered for changed memory segments by either the processor or specialized hardware within the active component, or may be run in a continuous loop sequencing through a predefined range of memory segments. The standby component may thus be kept abreast of changes to data within memory segments, such as changes to call states or resource allocation records relating to call processing.
