Abstract: A method and system for determining the state of a service within a computer network. The system includes at least one computer platform connected with the computer network. The computer platform provides a service. A load is defined by load metrics for the computer platform. The system also includes the capability for obtaining the metrics from the computer platform and a load reporter for calculating from the metrics a total load associated for the service. The load reporter also creates a report of the total load associated for the service. The system may also include a second computer platform having metrics, which are calculated into the total load of the service. The system may also automatically scale a second load associated with the second computer platform by comparing the second computer platform's performance characteristics with the first computer platform's performance characteristics.
