  • Patent number: 4091520
Abstract: A gastight seal for a rotating spindle or the like is made by tightly fitting an externally spirally ribbed element into a bore in another element and machining out that part of the element which projects inside the spiral rib so as to leave only the spiral rib flexed within the bore.

  • Patent number: 4038202
Abstract: Actinide metal microspheres are washed with an aqueous solution of a hydrophilic surfactant having an HLB value greater than 10 and up to about 14 to remove water soluble salts therefrom and any water immiscible organic liquids adhering to the microspheres according to the process disclosed. The microspheres are prepared by dispersing an aqueous phase of the appropriate actinide metal oxide into an immiscible organic liquid in the presence of ammonia or an ammonia releasing agent under solidification conditions to form the microspheres. Uranyl nitrate and anion-deficient uranyl nitrate solutions are preferred. Improved results are obtained when the organic liquid contains a complementary lipophilic surfactant having a HLB value of no more than about 10.

  • Patent number: 4021279
Abstract: A method is given for obtaining recesses in a surface by etching. The obtained surface with recesses can be used for example in bearings.According to the invention, an etching method is given, wherein the depth of the recesses is controlled by forcing an etching fluid along the surface to be etched by means of a flow guiding template in places defined by this template. The etching rate in the recesses to be etched is controlled by adjustment of the flow velocity of the etching liquid and the slit height in the flow-guiding template. The recesses to be etched are deeper when the flow velocity of the etching fluid and the slit height are both higher.

  • Patent number: 4011289
Abstract: Uniform microspheres substantially or completely free from internal cavities and voids are prepared by spraying an aqueous hydrated metal oxide solution onto the surface of a water-immiscible organic liquid containing from 0.04 to 2.0 percent by volume of a surface active agent, the viscosities of each of the organic and inorganic phases plus the amount of surface active agent within the above range being selected such that there is sufficient surface active agent present to prevent the globules from adhering to each other yet an insufficient amount to prevent deformation from the substantially spherical shape.

  • Patent number: 4010796
Abstract: Lattice for the giving of sideways support to fissile rods as used in a nuclear reactor, or other rods or pipes, likewise subjected to heat exchanging conditions, as for example in a heat exchanger. The lattice is composed of elongated metal strips, connected at intervals by transversely poised brackets, consisting of narrow strips, of which the connecting edges are bended into lips, set at an angle, to be fixed at the elongated strips.

  • Patent number: 4007899
Abstract: Lattice, especially for supporting sideways a bunch of nuclear fuel rods, constructed according to the egg-crate principle, in which fixing lips of alternating different lengths are stamped and bend out of the bands and cross-bands from which the lattice is composed, and are spotwelded to these bands.

  • Patent number: 3968008
Abstract: Fissile element that can be easily assembled and also afterwards taken apart. This is facilitated by the use of tilting bolts and snap connections. The assembling may be done by freezing in of the bunch of fissile rods in demineralized water.

  • Patent number: 3945859
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a superconductor consisting of different materials by introducing into material of an element or an alloy at least one element of another group or a compound, whereupon the diameter of the assembly, if desired, is reduced and subsequently a superconductive layer of said elements is formed by thermal treatment.

  • Patent number: 3935120
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the preparation of aniondeficient actinide nitrate solutions. Anion deficient actinide nitrate solutions are used for the preparation of ceramic spherical ceramic nuclear fuel.According to the invention one or more actinide oxides selected from the group of PuO.sub.2, UO.sub.2, U.sub.3 O.sub.8, UO.sub.3 of oxides ranging between UO.sub.2 and UO.sub.3 are dissolved in one or more actinide nitrates which are molten in their water of crystallination. The obtained mixture is subsequently diluted with water.

  • Patent number: RE28894
Abstract: Concentrated anion-deficient salt solutions are prepared of the actinide oxides, PuO.sub.2, UO.sub.2, UO.sub.3 and U.sub.3 O.sub.8 by dissolving one or more oxides in an aqueous solution of thorium nitrate at a concentration of 4 molar or greater and at a temperature of 60.degree. C. or more. Anion-deficient salt solutions of actinide metals so produced are useful as starting materials for the manufacture of ceramic nuclear fuel particles by the sol-gel process.
