Patent number: 11219956Abstract: A peeler device removes a thin layer from the outer surface of the end of a plastic pipe or tapping tee. In the preferred embodiments, the device has a main body and a mandrel. The pipe to be peeled is pushed onto the mandrel when the mandrel is in an out position. As the main body is rotated, a blade advances onto the plastic pipe and peels a thin layer off the outer surface of the pipe as it is advanced. The main body is rotated until peeling is complete. There may be a sight window in the main body to permit visual confirmation of when peeling is complete. A spring loaded blade lever is actuated to raise the blade and the pipe is pulled out of the main body.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2018Date of Patent: January 11, 2022Assignee: Reed Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Chris Arkwright

Publication number: 20150298214Abstract: A pipe beveler for chamfering simultaneously the inside and outside of a pipe end is provided. The device may comprise a main body, at least two blades, and an arbor. The body includes an open-end cylindrical pipe guide portion and an internal frustoconical portion. The blades are firmly affixed to the main body with their cutting edges arranged at positions and angles that allow for chamfering simultaneously the inner and outer diameters of the pipe end. A spare blade may also be affixed inside the main body.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2014Publication date: October 22, 2015Applicant: REED MANUFACTURING COMPANYInventor: Christopher M. Arkwright

Publication number: 20150090094Abstract: A pipe peeler for removing a uniform layer of material from the outer surface of a polyethylene pipe is provided. The device comprises a body, a blade, a chain coupled near a first face of the body, a means for coupling the other end of the chain to the body near a second face of the body, a means for tightening the chain around a pipe, and a grip for rotating the device around the pipe in order to peel the pipe. The chain may define a helix shape when wrapped around the pipe, creating a spiral track on the pipe that the blade will follow when the device is pushed around the pipe, thereby creating a uniform spiral peel.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2014Publication date: April 2, 2015Applicant: REED MANUFACTURING COMPANYInventors: Christopher M. Patent number: 8720070Abstract: A pipe peeler for removing a uniform layer of material from the outer surface of a polyethylene pipe is provided. The device comprises a cuboid body, a blade with housing for retracting the blade, a chain attached to one end of the cuboid body, a threaded hook for attaching the other end of the chain to the cuboid body and tightening the chain around a pipe, and a push knob for rotating the device around the pipe in order to peel the pipe. The two points on the chain attached to the body are different distances from the end of the pipe when the chain is tightened around the pipe, thereby creating a spiral track on the pipe that the blade will follow when the device is pushed around the pipe, thereby creating a uniform spiral peel.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2011Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Reed Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Robert M. Patent number: 4682919Abstract: A portable powered machine particularly suited for cutting and bevelling large diameter pipe of various composition. The machine comprises a carriage and adjustable link assembly movable manually about the periphery of a pipe. A motor for rotating a cutting and bevelling tool is mounted in the carriage for adjustable movement radially of the pipe. A tool guard housing having a rectractable cover is mounted to the carriage for adjustable movement with the motor.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1986Date of Patent: July 28, 1987Assignee: Reed Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Joseph T. Patent number: 4177558Abstract: A cutter for trimming plastic pipe which has been roughed in with an end projecting through an opening in a floor so that the trimmed end is in fixed relation, above or below, the surface of the floor. The cutter comprises a housing with its lower end riding on the surface of the floor, an internal saw with its cutting edge in a plane parallel to the surface of the floor received within the pipe end adjacent one side of the pipe and vertically adjustable to establish the level of cutting, and internal guide fingers exerting a thrust on the side of the pipe opposite the saw and adjustable to move the housing sufficiently to force the saw through the wall of the pipe end after which the fingers guide further rotation of the housing about the axis of the pipe end to complete the cut.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1978Date of Patent: December 11, 1979Assignee: Reed Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Thomas G.
