    Abstract: A trailer (10) is provided having a framework (12) carrying ground engaging wheels (14), a body (16) having a corrugated bottom wall and defining a storage compartment and a tiedown fastener for securing the body to the framework through the corrugated bottom wall. The trailer includes an interchangeable top (18) and tailgate. The trailer also includes a novel spring assembly. The spring assembly includes a leaf spring with an anchoring aperture at one end and a mounting tongue at the other. The mounting tongue is captured between the framework and a fastener and provides relative sliding movement. Additionnally, the sidewalls of the trailer include aligned slots (70) that receive a strut which supports an optional shelf.

    Abstract: A gooseneck hitch assembly for mounting on a vehicle includes a hitch ball, a housing and a mounting assembly for securing the hitch ball and housing to the frame of a vehicle. The hitch ball is pivotally connected to the housing and includes a conveniently located lubrication fitting, a pivotally mounted security door with a torsion spring to hold the door in fully open and closed positions, and a latch thereon for securing the door in a closed position and the hitch ball in a towing position. A pair of safety chain anchors in alignment with the hitch ball is pivotally connected to the housing such that one of the anchors overlies and protects the lubrication fitting in the storage position.

  • Tilting fifth wheel trailer hitch

    Abstract: A fifth wheel hitch (10) has a skid plate (28) pivotally mounted to a housing (18) for lateral pivotable movement. The hitch is closed with a sliding jaw plate and has a lock block (54) that optionally can affix the skid plate to the housing during towing of a trailer. Both the jaw plate (36) and lock block (54) are operated and set by a handle (20) that extends out of the side of the housing. The handle has a crank (21) that can both be rotated and pulled by the operator from the side of a pickup truck for convenience in operation to control both opening and closing the hitch and selectively setting the lock block.
