Patent number: 4481989Abstract: The apparatus for extracting a tree stump from the ground without the root has a frame including locating means for locating the frame in a predetermined central position on a tree stump. Shearing means oppositely disposed on the frame are pivotable toward each other to cut the tap root of the tree stump in a lateral direction at a predetermined distance below the ground level. The shearing means are pivotable by a first set of hydraulic cylinders and also receive additional movement from a thrust member that moves longitudinally with respect to the frame and engages the shearing members during such longitudinal movement. The thrust member also includes an annular cutter portion for cutting the lateral root of the tree stump substantially simultaneously as the shearing members cut the tap root. In one embodiment of the invention the cutter blades of the shearing members are placed next to each other in substantially continuous line to line contact after total shearing of the tap root of the tree stump.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1983Date of Patent: November 13, 1984Assignee: Reichhold Chemicals, Inc.Inventor: Edwin L. Patent number: 4159389Abstract: This invention relates to an improved method for the production of high purity dicumyl peroxide. As produced, dicumyl peroxide contains many impurities which must be removed. Generally, our invention comprises flash distilling crude dicumyl peroxide, separating and discarding the distillate and allowing the residual product to crystallize. The supernatant liquid from the crystallized dicumyl peroxide is then fed into the next batch of crude dicumyl peroxide to be distilled. In this manner high yields are obtained along with a very rapid distillation time. Because the supernatant liquid from each crystallization is fed back into the process, the dicumyl peroxide normally left in the supernatant is recovered in the subsequent steps.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1978Date of Patent: June 26, 1979Assignee: Reichhold Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: John D. Patent number: 4101293Abstract: This invention relates to the preparation and use of a novel emulsifier for use in formulating storage stable coal and oil fuel mixtures. The stabilizer is prepared by reacting blends of unsaturated aliphatic and cycloaliphatic carboxylic acids with alkali metal hydroxides or amines. This stabilizing emulsifier allows for the preparation of coal and oil fuel mixtures containing up to 50 parts by weight of coal which possess superior storage stability over wide temperature ranges without the coal settling out, which undergo clean combustion thus reducing the increased air pollution normally associated with the combustion of coal or coal containing fuels and which may be used in conventional oil burning furnaces with a minimum of modification.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1977Date of Patent: July 18, 1978Assignee: Reichhold Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: Arthur Waldemar Krause, John Korose

Patent number: 4065421Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the continuous production of aqueous urea-formaldehyde solutions having a mol ratio of formaldehyde to urea ranging from about 4.0 to about 6.0 and having a total solids content ranging from about 60% to about 85% by weight. This process utilizes a single multiple tray absorption column through which is passed the gaseous product from a formaldehyde converter counter current to a flow of aqueous urea solution. The column is maintained at a temperature ranging from about 40.degree. C to about 80.degree. C and dilute aqueous base is added at several points along the tower. Formaldehyde combines with the urea in the solution during their respective passages through the column to form the final product. A portion of the final product is circulated through the lower portion of the column.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1976Date of Patent: December 27, 1977Assignee: Reichhold Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: Charles L.
