  • Patent number: 4443205
Abstract: A gear coupling for a pair of rotatable shafts disposed in end-to-end relation, in which a pair of hubs is mounted on the shafts and sleeves are secured to the inboard side of the hubs and contain internal teeth. A spacer extends between the two sleeves and is provided with gear teeth at each end for meshing with the internal gear teeth in the sleeves. A separate plate is mounted on the inner end of each hub and an element is secured to each end of the spacer for engaging an annular shoulder inside each sleeve, for minimizing the end play of the spacer relative to the hubs and to eliminate or minimize the end play of one shaft by utilizing the stability of the other shaft to control the end play of the first shaft.

  • Patent number: 4399410
Abstract: A circuit for generating at least two periodic output signals having a phase relationship controllable between zero and 180 degrees as a function of a d.c. control signal as compared to a ramp signal. Also included is circuitry for controlling the phase relationship to be at substantially 180 degrees when the d.c. control signal is always greater than the ramp signal and to be at substantially zero degrees when the d.c. control signal is always less than the ramp signal.

  • Patent number: 4393316
Abstract: A drive current circuit for a switching power transistor which allows the controlled turn off of the transistor without affecting transistor turn on. The drive transformer has two cores one of which follows a linear magnetization characteristic and the other of which has a relatively high permeability. The input and output windings of the drive transformer are wound on both cores. A turn off winding is also included which is wound only on the high permeability core. A source of turn off charge is directly coupled to the transistor. Shorting of the turn off winding initiates the controlled turn off of the transistor.

  • Patent number: 4393492
Abstract: A multi-channel digital subscriber carrier system for serving a multiplicity of subscribers one or more of whom may be located at points between the central office and the subscriber (furthest remote) terminal. One or more drop terminals are provided to serve these inbetween subscribers. Each terminal has a receiver section for recovering the clock signal generated by a master oscillator located in the central office. The receiver section also synchronizes on the received signal and generates signals indicating times of occurrence of the channels in the received signal. The transmitter section of each terminal uses the above signals and the recovered clock to generate a digital signal wherein messages from the subscribers at the terminal are inserted in those channels associated with the subscribers for the messages received from the office for the subscribers. Each terminal has associated therewith a circuit for bypassing the terminal upon the occurrence of a terminal fault condition.

  • Patent number: 4307392
Abstract: A scale is disclosed which includes a digital display unit for conveying information. A display verification method and system are employed for determining whether a plurality of information conveying segments forming the indicators of the display unit are properly conveying information. Individual segments of the display unit are operated under control of a microprocessor. Segment status determining circuitry determines the operative status of each of the segments by sequentially monitoring a voltage drop indicative of the current passing through an LED comprising that segment. The status determining circuitry produces status information which is stored in the microprocessor memory and compared with data indicative of the information the display should convey if it is properly functioning. If the comparison indicates that one of the segments is not properly conveying the information, warning messages are displayed which indicate maintenance procedures are required.

  • Patent number: 4170058
Abstract: The axial end play of dynamoelectric machine may be adjusted by adjusting the axial position of a machine bearing relative to the machine rotor. A relatively large electric motor is illustrated wherein the amount and position of the axial end play of the rotor may be adjusted without disassembly of the motor. A bearing cap at one or both ends of the motor is removed to observe the amount of axial clearance between the bearing and a shoulder on either the stator or the rotor, the shaft is lifted slightly, the bearing is moved in the frame, an arcuate shim is inserted between the bearing and a shoulder in the frame, the upper bearing half is replaced if it is a split bearing and then the bearing cap is replaced and secured to secure the bearing in its newly located axial position. The foregoing abstract is merely a resume of one general application, is not a complete discussion of all principles of operation or applications, and is not to be construed as a limitation on the scope of the claimed subject matter.
