Patent number: 12625518Abstract: One embodiment of a device mount establishes an electrical connection between a display device and an input mechanism. The device mount comprises a backplate that couples a display device and a support panel for supporting the backplate. A conductive pin of the backplate contacts a complementary receptacle the coupled display device to establish an electrical connection between the display device and electronics in the backplate. A conductor connects the device electronics in the backplate to a first conductive plate. The support panel comprises a second conductive contact and a conductor connecting the second conductive contact to a controller coupled to the bottom plate that encoding inputs received at the input mechanism into instructions for the display device and transmits the instructions to the display device. Rotation of the support panel moves the second conductive contact into contact with the first conductive contact to establish an electrical connection between the two.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2022Date of Patent: May 12, 2026Assignee: reMarkable ASInventors: Gaute Wiig Nordby, Borge Strand-Bergesen, Erik Andre Bengtsson, Vegard Bakke Svendsen

Patent number: 12504807Abstract: One embodiment of a disclosed system, method, and computer readable storage medium which includes an algorithm for regulating power to electronic components of a device. In an active state, the system detects a period of inactivity based on a frequency of gesture inputs to the contact-sensitive surface of the device. In response to detecting the period of inactivity, the device transitions into an idle state with reduced power consumption by electronic components of the device. The device records an amount of time that the device has spent in the idle state transitions into a regularized suspend state where power consumption by electronic components of the device is reduced from the consumption in the idle state to detect one or more activation trigger conditions. In the regularized suspended state, the device presents a persistent display comprising a graphic generated in response to a most recent set of user inputs the device.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2024Date of Patent: December 23, 2025Assignee: REMARKABLE ASInventors: Lars Ivar Miljeteig Skukkestad, Steinar Bakkemo, Patrick Hisni Brataas

Patent number: 12474792Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a pen-stylus that comprises a first antenna having a hemispherical shape at a proximal end of the pen-stylus where the pen-stylus engages with a display of a tablet device. The pen-stylus also includes a second antenna, wherein the first antenna and the second antenna communicate with the tablet device to enable a pen-stylus user to draw on the display of the tablet device. The pen-stylus additionally includes an insulating material between the first antenna and the second antenna that prevents interference between the first antenna and the second antenna. In some embodiments, the first antenna and the insulating material reside in a marker tip attached to the pen-stylus, the marker tip transmits axial forces received by engagement of the pen-stylus with the display on the tablet to a force sensor.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2024Date of Patent: November 18, 2025Assignee: reMarkable ASInventors: Gaute Wiig Nordby, Espen Lie, Vegard Bakke Svendsen, Xian Dong Guo, Peng Shuai, Jin Qian, Wen Bin Zhou, Liang Xiong

Patent number: 12474737Abstract: One embodiment of a device mount orients a display device. The device mount comprises a backplate with a first surface for removably coupling the display device and a bottom plate having a first surface coupling an input mechanism. An upper support panel couples to a second surface of the backplate and the bottom plate. The upper support panel rotates about a first hinge and a second hinge to support the backplate as the backplate is raised relative to the bottom plate. A lower support panel couples to a second surface of the backplate and the bottom plate. As the backplate is raised relative to the bottom plate, the lower support panel rotates about a third hinge and a fourth hinge and the backplate rotates about the third hinge away from a first face of the lower support panel to rest against a second face of the lower support panel.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2022Date of Patent: November 18, 2025Assignee: reMarkable ASInventors: Gaute Wiig Nordby, Borge Strand-Bergesen, Erik Andre Bengtsson, Vegard Bakke Svendsen

Patent number: 12416999Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a removable marker tip configured for application with an active pen-stylus. The removable marker tip comprises an antenna and an insulator and is designed to be held onto the pen-stylus' writing shaft by a set of crush ribs fitted into a posterior recess on the removable marker tip. The removable marker tip is designed to be a consumable part to improve the paper feeling received by users of the pen-stylus as they draw on the display of a tablet device. The removable marker tip is further designed to be hand-removable by users of the pen-stylus.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2024Date of Patent: September 16, 2025Assignee: reMarkable ASInventors: Gaute Wiig Nordby, Espen Lie, Anna Karoline Øren Lillerud, Lars Årtun, Vegard Bakke Svendsen, Xian Dong Guo, Peng Shuai, Liang Xiong

Patent number: 12411561Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a plurality of safety features for a pen-stylus. The pen-stylus may comprise a writing shaft that receives mechanical input forces as a user engages the pen-stylus on a display of a tablet device, a force sensor that translates mechanical input forces received from the writing shaft into electrical ones for operation by electronics in the pen-stylus; and a writing shaft impact shock absorber that receives heavy forces imparted to the pen-stylus to shield the force sensor from receiving such heavy forces. The heavy forces impacting the pen-stylus may arise from the pen-stylus being dropped onto a hard surface.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2024Date of Patent: September 9, 2025Assignee: reMarkable ASInventors: Gaute Wiig Nordby, Xian Dong Guo, Peng Shuai, Wen Bin Zhou, Liang Xiong

Patent number: 12299218Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide an improved structure and method for determining the tilt angle associated with the erasure component of an active pen-stylus relative to the display on a matching computing device by analysis of two different antenna signals associated with the erasure function and then employing this calculated tilt angle to determine an area of erasure on the display device associated with the active pen-stylus. Embodiments of the invention may effectively copy in an electronic eraser, the ability of a conventional rubber eraser to control an area of erasure based on the tilt of the eraser, e.g., a heavy area of erasure when the eraser is held at an angle or a shallow area of erasure when the eraser is held in a more upright position.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2024Date of Patent: May 13, 2025Assignee: reMarkable ASInventors: Gaute Wiig Nordby, Torje Asdahl, Anna Karoline Øren Lillerud, Espen Lie

Patent number: 12141901Abstract: One embodiment of a disclosed system, method, and computer readable storage medium which includes an algorithm for generating a vector graphic based on a raster graphic input. A tablet scribe system identifies a boundary of a raster graphic image. The boundary is comprised of contrasting pixels in the raster graphic. The system determines a slope for each line segment of the raster graphic boundary. Based on a comparison of the slope for the adjacent line segments, the system generates a contour replaces line segments with equivalent slopes wherein each line segments represents a point on the contour. The system condenses the contour by removing redundant points on the contour based on their position relative to neighboring points and converts the edges of one or more remaining line segments into continuous curves on the contour.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2023Date of Patent: November 12, 2024Assignee: Remarkable ASInventors: Martin Tobias Holmedahl Sandsmark, Gunnar Sletta
