  • Patent number: 6782991
Abstract: A board turner (1, 31) is intended for use on a conveyor (3) for transporting large volumes of boards. The conveyor (3) defines a plane for carrying boards (14) and the board turner (1, 31) has a rotation unit (4) and a gripping unit (7) mounted on the rotation unit (4). The gripping unit (7) has an open position and a closed position and is switchable between these positions in response to a signal from a sensor. In the open position, the gripping unit (7) rotates past the carrying plane without making contact with the synchronously arriving board (14). A signal from the sensor switches the gripping unit (7) between the open position and the closed position while the gripping unit (7) grips two opposite surfaces of a sideways extending part of the board (14) and continues to rotate above the belt conveyor (3) in order to turn the board (14) in this way.

  • Patent number: 5479839
Abstract: A method is provided for cutting pipes, preferably welded pipes in conjunction with welding the pipes in a welding machine, and for cutting the pipes at a rate determined by the welding machine. At the same time a pipe is cut in a cutting position by a raisable and lowerable cutting device, the next pipe to be cut is fed to a pipe collecting position. The collecting position is displaced in relation to the cutting position, such that when the cutting device returns to its starting position upon completion of a cutting operation, the pipe is advanced one step to the pipe cutting position while simultaneously, the preceding pipe is advanced to the pipe collecting position.

  • Patent number: 4348145
Abstract: Apparatus for handling elongated objects such as pieces of wood includes at least one elongated flexible member for forming the bottom and sides of an object-handling compartment having a longitudinal dimension and a transverse dimension, the flexible member having a first end and a free end; a coiling device associated with the first end of the flexible member for winding up and unwinding the flexible member; an attaching device at the free end of the flexible member; an attaching mechanism operable for selectively being connected to and disconnected from the attaching device whereby when the attaching device and the attaching mechanism are connected, the flexible member can be suspended from its ends to form the compartment and whereby the attaching device can be disconnected from the attaching mechanism to loosen the flexible member to enable emptying of the compartment; and a device arranged after loosening of the flexible member to introduce the flexible member in the attaching mechanism so as to bring t

  • Patent number: 4290723
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for assembling timber output at the delivery end of a feed conveyor in packages of layers. The feed conveyor delivers timber pieces in equally spaced relationship. A transfer device is provided in direct connection to the delivery end of the feed conveyor and includes at least two carrier planes movable individually and after one another in a cyclic path. One carrier plane is always in a phase of its cyclic movement so as to constitute a continuation of the feed conveyor for receiving timber pieces delivered from the conveyor to form a layer. Each carrier plane during said phase of its cyclic movement moves ahead in agreement with the feed conveyor a distance equal to the width of the timber piece during the time the feed conveyor moves a distance substantially equal to the width of the timber piece and the spacing between them until a layer is completed.

  • Patent number: 4280382
Abstract: A trimming saw arrangement comprises a root-cutting station, a trimming station, and a feed line for advancing timber, perpendicular to its longitudinal direction, through the stations and to a sorting station having a sorting conveyor. The stations include a plurality of cutting or trimming places arranged one after the other in the feed direction and a distribution flap and conveyor for distributing arriving timber to the respective places responsive to the amount of timber accumulated in a storage bin associated with each cutting or trimming place.

  • Patent number: 4208163
Abstract: A coupling between a tool attachment adapted to be supported on a carrier and a tool mount fitting the tool attachment and adapted to support a tool, the tool mount carrying a fixed latch member and the tool attachment carrying a movable latch member which, when the tool attachment and the tool mount are in engagement, is movable into and out of locking engagement with the fixed latch member; a device for moving the latch member between locking and unlocking positions to thereby couple and decouple, respectively, the tool attachment and the tool mount; a hydraulic control circuit for supplying power to a tool supported on the tool mount, the circuit including a pair of two-part hose couplings, one part of each coupling being stationary on the tool mount and the other part carried on and movable relative to the tool attachment; and a device for moving the movable hose coupling parts relative to the tool attachment, in response to locking and unlocking movement of the movable latch member, in a manner such that

  • Patent number: 4120333
Abstract: In a method of trimming timber pieces, in which the pieces are cross-cut at one end and thereafter are advanced to a turner, the invention includes the step of applying to each piece, prior to arrival at the turner, a plurality of marks which are registrable after the turning of the piece. The marks are applied on that side of the piece which, after the turning, shall face upwardly. Preferably, the marks are equally spaced, and are repeated from the cross-cut end to the opposite end of the piece.

  • Patent number: 4090603
Abstract: A collecting arrangement for elongated articles such as sawn timber, preceding delivery to a processing station, includes a rectangular frame provided with a feed conveyor constituted by a set of parallel spaced endless conveyor units pivotally mounted at one end along one side of the frame and from which they are transferred to a discharge conveyor also constituted by a set of parallel spaced endless conveyor units pivotally mounted at one end along the opposite side of the frame, the discharge conveyor being operated in the same direction as the feed conveyor but in a step-like manner. The feed and discharge conveyors are supported below by a carrier girder extending transversely of and movable along the length of the conveyors on arc-shaped or polygonally curved runways extending along the other two opposite sides of the frame.
