Patent number: 9799217Abstract: An oscillator unit for a vehicle detector includes an oscillator circuit for generating vehicle detector loop signals in response to enabling control signals from a vehicle detector control unit, a gain control circuit for maintaining the amplitude of the oscillator output signals within a limited range, and a clamping circuit for eliminating ringing of the oscillator output signals when operation of the oscillator circuit is disabled. The gain control circuit eliminates random amplitude changes in the vehicle detector loop signals generated by the oscillator circuit caused by changing environmental conditions experienced by the vehicle detector loop. The clamping circuit provides immediate clamping of the oscillator circuit operation to eliminate ringing when the control signal switches to the off state. The few additional circuit components which provide the gain control and clamping functions add very little to the overall cost of the oscillator circuit.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2016Date of Patent: October 24, 2017Assignee: RENO A + EInventor: Thomas Ray Potter

Patent number: 9334692Abstract: The present disclosure provides a drilling method and drill. According to a disclosed method, multiple reciprocating rock-breaking elements, including a hammer drill bit, are used. The elements are moved in alternation to each other such that the net volume displacement by the moving parts is reduced for reducing compression work and thus for losing useful energy from the available amount from the drill bit engine for rock breaking. If desired, a small component of the net volume displacement is kept for enhancing PVW for enhancing rock chipping by tensile strength. The method also includes synchronizing the peak of the pressure depression wave with that of the impact moment of the drill bit's reciprocating motion to enhance, rather than hamper, rock breaking by the creation of PVW.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2014Date of Patent: May 10, 2016Assignee: Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education, on Behalf of the University of Nevada, RenoInventor: George L.
