Abstract: A method and apparatus in a user equipment is described, the method comprising, at the user equipment: receiving data from a cell in a wireless network; if reading of the data is unsuccessful, determining a signal quality metric for a signal received from the cell; and when reading of the data is unsuccessful and when the signal quality metric meets a criterion, initiating a procedure associated with cells for which reading of the data is unsuccessful.
Abstract: A method and mobile communication device for generating dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) commands on a mobile communication device having a touchscreen are provided. In accordance with one embodiment, there is provided a method for generating dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) commands on a mobile communication device having a touchscreen, comprising: detecting an automated attendant during a telephone call; activating speech recognition in respect of incoming voice data during the telephone call in response to detecting an automated attendant; translating spoken prompts in the incoming voice data into respective DTMF commands; displaying a menu having selectable menu options corresponding to the DTMF commands in a graphical user interface on the touchscreen; receiving input selecting one of the menu options; receiving input via the touchscreen activating a selected one of the menu options; and generating a DTMF command in accordance with the activated menu option.
Abstract: A holster for a handheld electronic device. The holster has integrated therein one or more piezoelectric elements that provide an output voltage to the handheld electronic device upon insertion of device in the holster. The output voltage can be used to charge the battery of the device, to power, at least in part, the device, or both. The output voltage is generated by harvesting vibration energy at the piezoelectric elements upon the holster being subjected to acceleration caused by a user carrying the holster when walking, running, or during any other suitable activity.

Abstract: A method of cell selection in a wireless cellular network having a plurality of radio system cells involves determining a bandwidth indication for data communication through each of a serving cell and at least one neighboring cell to the serving cell. The bandwidth indication comprises an indication of the capacity for data communication through each cell. One of the cells is then selected for packet-based communication in accordance with the determined bandwidth indications.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a base, a touch-sensitive input surface spaced from and moveable relative to the base, and an actuating arrangement between the base and the touch-sensitive input surface. The actuating arrangement is arranged to vary a force on the touch-sensitive input surface in response to detection of a touch event on the touch-sensitive input surface. The actuating arrangement includes an actuator including a piezoelectric disk coupled to a substrate that includes an elastically deformable truncated disk.
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating paging of an access terminal operable in a radio communication system. A paging message is formed, selectably including partial identities of access terminals that are to be paged by the paging message. Determination is made as to whether portions of any of the partial identities have portions of common values. If portions of the partial identities have common values, such portions can be shared, and extra parts, resulting from sharing can be reallocated to increase the length of another partial identity.
Abstract: A method for controlling a maximum signal level output to headphones of a wireless device is provided. The method includes: determining an impedance of the headphones; determining a carrier specific maximum signal level for headphones having the impedance; and, adjusting an audio amplifier of the wireless device coupled to the headphones to restrict the maximum signal level output to the headphones to the carrier specific maximum signal level.
Abstract: A user agent comprising a processor enabled to configure the user agent to adjust a discontinuous reception (DRX) start offset when a downlink assignment is one of configured and reconfigured. The DRX start offset is adjusted to satisfy the equation (10*SFNstart time+subframestart time)modulo(Long DRX Cycle)=DRX start offset.

Abstract: A telephone to be connected to a wireline having reduced sensitivity to RF interference over a predetermined frequency range from an adjacent mobile wireless communications device may include a transmit amplifier, a receive amplifier, an audio input transducer connected to the transmit amplifier, and an audio output transducer connected to the receive amplifier. The telephone may further include an RF shield(s) surrounding the audio input transducer and the audio output transducer for reducing RF interference over the predetermined frequency range from the adjacent mobile wireless communications device. Moreover, the telephone may also include at least one RF audio input filter element connected to the audio input transducer and at least one RF audio output filter element connected to the audio output transducer, both of which are also for reducing RF interference over the predetermined frequency range from the adjacent mobile wireless communications device.

Abstract: A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing and circuit board carried by the housing and having radio frequency (RF) circuitry and a processor operative with each other. Audio circuitry is carried by the circuit board and an audio transducer assembly, such as a speaker, has electrical contacts that electrically engage the audio circuitry for carrying audio signals between the audio circuitry and audio transducer assembly. A filter is mounted at the audio transducer assembly and reduces radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic interference to the audio transducer assembly during device operation.
