Abstract: A machine and method for a hydrostatic axial sliding bearing that has bearing and sealing functions and is capable of exhibiting reduced power losses. The hydrostatic axial sliding bearing of the machine is defined by axial sliding bearing surfaces that are separated by a fluid film and adapted for movement relative to each other during operation of the machine. The machine has first and second elements that define a first and a second of the axial sliding bearing surfaces. In combination, the first and second axial sliding bearing surfaces function as bearing and sealing surfaces for the hydrostatic axial sliding bearing. The machine is adapted so that the first and second axial sliding bearing surfaces move relative to each other in a first direction of motion, and at least the second axial sliding bearing surface has a surface profile with an oscillatory waveform in the first direction of motion.

Abstract: A circuit element includes first and second nanomagnets and first and second fixed magnets. The first nanomagnet is inductively coupled to a first current carrying element, and is configured to change polarity responsive to current in the first current carrying element. In one example, the first current carrying element includes a spin Hall effect substrate. The second nanomagnet is magnetically coupled to the first nanomagnet, and is inductively coupled to a second current carrying element. The first fixed magnet is disposed on the second nanomagnet and has a first fixed polarity, and second fixed magnet disposed on the second nanomagnet and has a second fixed polarity.
Abstract: A multi-level converter includes a first multi-phase inverter and a second multi-phase inverter. The first multi-phase inverter includes a first direct current (DC) positive line, a first DC negative line, and a first plurality of alternating current (AC) lines. Each AC line of the first plurality of AC lines is configured to be connected to a single phase winding of an electric machine. Each single phase winding is connected to a common neutral connector in a Y-winding configuration or between a pair of single phase windings in a ?-winding configuration. The second multi-phase inverter includes a second DC positive line, a second DC negative line, and a second plurality of AC lines and is connected in a similar manner to the first multi-phase inverter. The first DC negative line is electrically coupled to the second DC positive line to connect the first multi-phase inverter and the second multi-phase inverter in series.
Abstract: A rigid, flat plate diaphragm for an acoustic device is illustrated. The internal supporting structure of the diaphragm provides a combination of torsional and translational stiffeners, which resemble a number of crossbars. These stiffeners brace and support the diaphragm motion, thus causing its response to not be adversely affected by fabrication stresses and causing it to be very similar in dynamic response to an ideal flat plate operating in a frequency range that extends well beyond the audible.

Abstract: Hydrophobic drugs become more practical for treatments by being encapsulated in micelle compositions for increasing solubility. Micelle compositions may include an excipient tocopherol and/or prodrug formulations of the drug. Micelles extend the time period the drug remains in the micelles to improve drug circulation time and thereby drug delivery. Hydrophobic drugs for micelle encapsulation may include rapamycin, geldanamycin, and paclitaxel. Administration of these micelle compositions does not require Cremophor EL or Tween 80, avoiding serious side effects associated with these products which would previously accompany such drug administration.
