Patent number: 9349375Abstract: According to an embodiment, a signal processing apparatus includes an estimation unit and an updating unit. The estimation unit is configured to estimate an auxiliary variable of a target section including first and second sections of input signals by using an approximating auxiliary function for approximating an auxiliary function having an auxiliary variable as an argument. The auxiliary function is determined according to an objective function that outputs a function value that is smaller as a statistical independence of separated signals into which input signals in time-series are separated by a demixing matrix is higher. The estimation unit is configured to estimate a value of the auxiliary variable of the target section based on the estimated auxiliary variable. The updating unit is configured to update the demixing matrix such that a function value of the approximating auxiliary function is minimized.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2013Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignees: Inter-University Research Institute Corporation, Research Organization of Information and Systems, KABUSHIKI KAISHA TOSHIBAInventors: Toru Taniguchi, Nobutaka Ono

Publication number: 20150278408Abstract: An information processing unit and information processing method capable of performing a ground-state search of an Ising model having coefficients of arbitrary values regardless of restrictions on hardware or software is suggested. When a ground state of an original problem, which is an Ising model, or an approximate solution of that ground state is calculated as a solution of the original problem, one or more sub-problems which are Ising models are generated from the original problem and the information processing unit searches the ground state of each generated sub-problem and generates a solution of the original problem based on a solution of each sub-problem obtained from the search; and when types of coefficient values of an Ising model whose ground state can be searched are limited, sub-problems which are Ising models composed of the types of limited values of coefficients are generated.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2015Publication date: October 1, 2015Applicants: Hitachi, Ltd., Inter-University Research Institute Corporation, Research Organization of Information and SystemsInventors: CHIHIRO YOSHIMURA, Masanao Yamaoka, Ken-ichi Kawarabayashi, Takuro Fukunaga, Taro Takaguchi, Takanori Maehara, Takuya Ohwa

Patent number: 9111229Abstract: A method is provided of creating an end-to-end entanglement (87) between qubits in first and second end nodes (81, 82) of a chain of optically-coupled nodes whose intermediate nodes (80) are quantum repeaters. Local entanglements (85) are created on an on-going basis between qubits in neighboring pairs in the chain through interaction of the qubits with light fields transmitted between the nodes. The quantum repeaters (80) are cyclically operated with their top-level operating cycles being synchronized. Once every top-level operating cycle, each repeater (80) initiates a merging of two entanglements involving respective repeater qubits that are at least expected to be entangled with qubits in nodes disposed in opposite directions along the chain from the repeater. A quantum repeater (80) adapted for implementing this method is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2009Date of Patent: August 18, 2015Assignees: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P., Inter-University Research Institute Corporation Research Organization of Information and SystemsInventors: Keith Harrison, William Munro, Kae Nemoto

Patent number: 8422360Abstract: A route switching method for switching a route in a core network that accommodates service networks including user node apparatuses by use of a server storing path information that includes, in every time frame, a route for a working path and a route for a backup path to be switched over from the working path, both of the working path and the backup path established between two boundary node apparatuses each of which is located on a boundary between the service network and the core network. The server calculates, in response to the connection request from the user node apparatus, a route for a working path and a route for a backup path, and requests the boundary node apparatus to establish this working path. The server can send the route for the backup path to the boundary node apparatus before a failure occurs in the core network.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2009Date of Patent: April 16, 2013Assignees: Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, Inter-University Research Institute Corporation Research Organization of Information and SystemsInventors: Kaori Shimizu, Ichiro Inoue, Kohei Shiomoto, Shigeo Urushidani

Publication number: 20120330493Abstract: A method, featuring robustness against changes in tire size, is provided for determining a road surface condition by dividing a time-series waveform of tire vibrations into windows without resorting to detection of the peak positions or measurement of the wheel speed. A time-series waveform of tire vibrations detected by a tire vibration detecting unit is windowed by a windowing unit. Time-series waveforms are extracted from the respective time windows, feature vectors X are calculated therefor, and then likelihoods Z for road-surface HMMs (hidden Markov models) are calculated. The likelihoods Z1 to Z5 calculated for the respective road-surface HMMs are compared with one another, and a road surface condition corresponding to the road-surface HMM showing the highest likelihood is determined to be the condition of the road surface on which the tire is running.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2012Publication date: December 27, 2012Applicants: Inter-University Research Institute Corporation, Research Organization of Information and System, KABUSHIKI KAISHA BRIDGESTONEInventors: Yasushi HANATSUKA, Tomoyuki HIGUCHI, Tomoko MATSUI
