    Abstract: An aerosol collection system and method. The system includes a bio-aerosol delivery device configured to supply bioparticles in a gas stream, a moisture exchange device including a partition member coupled to the gas stream and configured to humidify or dehumidify the bioparticles in the gas stream, and an aerosol collection medium downstream from the moisture exchange device and configured to collect the bioparticles. The method includes delivering bioparticles in a gas stream, humidifying or dehumidifying the bioparticles in the gas stream by transport of water across a partition member and into a vapor phase of the gas stream, and collecting the bioparticles by a collection medium.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed for determining the refractive index profile of an optical fiber wherein light from an intense optical source is focused at the bare fiber end portion of the test fiber. A small amount of light will be coupled into the optical fiber where for the short length of uncoated fiber only cladding modes are excited. The index of refraction is determined directly by analyzing the intensity distribution emitted from the optical fiber with a lens system having a limited numerical aperture.

    Abstract: A bonded sheath cable is disclosed of the type having a metallic shield wrapped around a cable core so as to form a longitudinal seam. A jelly-like lubricant overlays the metallic shield seam area and serves to decouple the bond between the metallic shield and an outer plastic jacket. The lubricant allows for relative movement between the longitudinal ends of the metallic shield and the overlying jacket layer without damaging the jacket layer if the bond between the overlapping ends of the metallic shield is broken and the cable twisted during installation or in some other manner.

    Abstract: A method for measuring certain geometrical properties of an optical fiber wherein the coating is removed from adjacent one end of the fiber, a high intensity light source is focused at the bare fiber and coating interface in order to couple scattered light into the optical fiber cladding and the intensity distribution of the transmitted light at the end face of optical fiber is analyzed. In this fashion nonuniformities on the end face of the optical fiber will not substantially affect the accuracy of measurements of geometrical properties of the cladding region of the optical fiber.
