    Abstract: The invention is directed to 11.beta.-arylsteroids of formula II: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.6, R.sup.8, R.sup.12 and X are as defined by the specification. The compounds exhibit potent antiprogestational activity and are useful in the treatment of fibroids, endometriosis, cervical ripening prior to delivery, hormone replacement therapy and in the control of fertility.
