Abstract: The present invention provides low cost and highly effective method for the removal of arsenic and Cr(III&VI) from contaminated water using zinc peroxide nanoparticles (20±5 nm) capped with glycerol/PVP/TEA up to the permissible range of drinking water. As Arsenic and chromium occurs naturally in the earth's crust. When rocks, minerals, and soil erode, they release arsenic and chromium into groundwater. Arsenic and chromium occurs naturally in varying amounts in groundwater in various parts of country from ppb level to ppm level. The average concentration of arsenic and chromium as per USEPA standard in drinking water it is 10 parts per billion and 0.05 ppm (50 ppb) respectively. In drinking water the level of chromium is usually low as well, but contaminated water may contain the dangerous Cr(III&VI). Although Cr(III) is an essential nutrient for humans and shortages may cause heart problems, disruptions of metabolisms and diabetes.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus are described for producing a volume transmission hologram and/or a volume reflection hologram from a film (10) having a backing foil (12) and a holographic layer (14). In said method, the film (10) is guided over a drum (18), on which the film (10) is brought in contact with the master hologram (22). The master hologram (22) and the film (10) are simultaneously moved through an exposure zone (20). In the exposure zone (20), the film (10) and the master hologram (22) are irradiated with a linearly expanding exposure laser beam (32) in order to reproduce the master hologram (22) in the photopolymer layer (14). Both volume reflection and volume transmission holograms can be produced in the polymer layer (14) of the film (10) that is guided over the drum by means of only one drum (18).
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for identifying a target nucleotide sequence. This method involves forming a ligation product on a target nucleotide sequence in a ligation detection reaction mixture, amplifying the ligation product to form an amplified ligation product in a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) mixture, detecting the amplified ligation product, and identifying the target nucleotide sequence. Such coupling of the ligase detection reaction and the polymerase chain reaction permits multiplex detection of nucleic acid sequence difference.

Abstract: An active air cleaning controller is connected to a forced air heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The active air cleaning controller uses call signals from a thermostat to the HVAC system and/or sensor signals to determine when, and for how long, the blower of the HVAC system has been active and whether to independently activate the blower. The active air cleaning controller uses at least the collected information regarding the blower run time to determine when to activate the blower, in addition to its use within the HVAC system, to cycle and thus clean the air in a living environment independently of call signals used to activate heating and/or cooling functions of the HVAC system.

Abstract: A tunable super-lens (TSL) for nanoscale optical sensing and imaging of bio-molecules and nano-manufacturing utilizes negative-index materials (NIMs) that operate in the visible or near infrared light. The NIMs can create a lens that will perform sub-wavelength imaging, enhanced resolution imaging, or flat lens imaging. This new TSL covers two different operation scales. For short distances between the object and its image, a near-field super-lens (NFSL) can create or enhance images of objects located at distances much less than the wavelength of light. For the far-zone, negative values are necessary for both the permittivity ? a permeability ?. While well-structured periodic meta-materials, which require delicate design and precise fabrication, can be used, metal-dielectric composites are also candidates for NIMs in the optical range. The negative-refraction in the composite films can be made by using frequency-selective photomodification.
