  • Patent number: 8587646
Abstract: The present invention relates to a multi-lens monitoring system for bed elevation around a pier according to the present invention comprises a container, a holder, a plurality of photographing units, and a processing module. The container is disposed on the pier; the holder is disposed inside the container; and the plurality of photographing units are disposed on the holder for photographing the bed under water and producing a monitoring image. The processing module is used for activating one of the plurality of photographing units for photographing the bed under water. The processing module also analyzes the monitoring image, gives the elevation variation of the bed, and transmits the elevation variation of the bed to a remote monitoring unit for real-timely monitoring and recording. During the monitoring process, the processing module will change activating one of the plurality of photographing units according to the monitoring image, and hence the electrical power can be saved.

  • Patent number: 8589059
Abstract: When measurements by sensors are impossible, the angular position of the vehicle is estimated from the conditions including rotation of the drive wheel and the driving torque so that the vehicle may travel in an inverted-pendulum position even in case of a failure of measurements of the vehicular position of angle. To achieve the object, the vehicle has a drive wheel rotatably mounted beneath a vehicular body, and a control unit that controls the vehicular position of angle through control of drive torque imparted to the drive wheel. The control unit has a means to estimate the vehicular angular position with respect to a vertical position from the conditions of rotation of the drive wheel and the driving torque.

  • Patent number: 8584275
Abstract: A device and associated method transfer a person having a handicap from one location to another, such as into or out of a wheelchair, bed, or bathtub. A wheeled base provides mobility to the device. A post and lifter arm support the patient during the transfer. The post is connected to a stabilization arm, which temporarily connects using a stabilization interface to a stabilization bracket. The stabilization bracket is typically attached rather permanently to a wall, ceiling, or other structural feature that provides substantial stability to the system. In various embodiments, the lifter arm may be actuated by hydraulics, the stabilization arm may be extendable, and a pair of extra wheels on the mobility base are adjustable horizontally (e.g., along one hedge of the base frame) or vertically (down to decrease the load on the casters, or up to allow the lifter to be “crabbed” sideways in confined spaces).
