Abstract: A rotational trough reflector solar-electricity generation device includes a trough reflector that rotates around a substantially vertical axis. A strip-type photovoltaic (PV) device is fixedly mounted along the focal line of the trough reflector. A tracking system rotates the trough reflector such that the trough reflector is aligned generally parallel to the incident sunlight (e.g., in a generally east-west direction at sunrise, turning to generally north-south at noon, and turning generally west-east at sunset). A disc-shaped support structure is used to distribute the reflector's weight over a larger area and to minimize the tracking system motor size. Multiple trough reflectors are mounted on the disc-shaped support to maximize power generation.

Abstract: A method and device for merging and mixing at least two separate and distinct fluid drops on a substrate, includes a drop merging area on the surface, where a first magnetic material is placed at a first location. A first drop of fluid is then placed at the first location on the surface, resulting in the first magnetic material being at least partially positioned within the first drop of fluid. A second drop of fluid is then placed at a second location on the surface of the drop merging area. A magnetic field is applied by a varying magnetic field generator to at least a portion of the drop merge area of the substrate, which includes at least the first location on the substrate. The varying magnetic field will act on the first magnetic material to move the first magnetic material within the first drop of fluid, causing a stirring of the fluid. A drop merging force from a drop merging mechanism is applied to at least one of the first drop of fluid and the second drop of fluid within the drop merge area.

Abstract: Methods and systems of tagging objects and reading tags coupled to objects. At least some of the illustrative embodiments are systems comprising a reading antenna, a tag reader coupled to the reading antenna, and a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag comprising a tag antenna electromagnetically coupled to the reading antenna. The RFID tag couples to an object such as the body of a living organism or a metallic article. Moreover, the tag antenna has a far-field radiation pattern in a direction away from the object that is substantially unaffected by proximity of the RFID tag to the object, and substantially unaffected by which surface of the RFID tag faces the object.

Abstract: The present invention provides a novel isopropyl acetate solvate form of zolmitriptan, and a process for its preparation thereof. The present invention also provides a process for preparation of zolmitriptan polymorph A. Thus, for example, zolmitriptan isopropanol solvate was dissolved in isopropyl acetate at 25 deg C, the contents were heated to reflux for 30 minutes and the separated solid was filtered, washed with isopropyl acetate to give zolmitriptan isopropyl acetate solvate.

The present invention further provides novel compositions based on analogues of the epothilones and methods for the treatment of cancer and cancer which has developed a multidrug-resistant phenotype.

Abstract: Mobile devices use a PBX and application servers associated with the PBX to access voice services. Some mobile devices can support simultaneous data and voice channels, with the PBX and application server respectively. Where a data channel is unavailable, a control and status updating mechanism is needed. One approach is to signal over the voice channel with DTMF tones. DTMF tones should be timed to cause the tones to arrive at the mobile device during a pause period of a ring cycle. However, it also is desirable to avoid unnaturally long silence periods or other pauses during system usage. Aspects relate to enhancing a user experience in these situations and successful transmission/reception of control and status information over a voice channel using DTMF tones.

Abstract: A mobile wireless communications device is to communicate with a server storing a plurality of file folders, and includes a display, a wireless transceiver, and a processor all carried by a housing. The processor is configured to wirelessly download an initial portion of a selected file folder from the server, with the server still having a remainder portion of the selected file folder available for downloading. The processor also generates search results by performing a local search of the initial portion of the file folder, and performs a remote search of the reminder portion of the selected file folder. The processor further presents the search results on the display.

The ground region comprises a primary ground plane and a protruded ground plane. The protruded ground plane is electrically connected to the primary ground plane and extends between the first no-ground region and the second no-ground region, such that the protruded ground plane separates the first no-ground region from the second no-ground region. The antenna comprises a first radiating portion and a second radiating portion. The first radiating portion is disposed in the first no-ground region. The start terminal of the second radiating portion is disposed in the second no-ground region. The second radiating portion extends and crosses over the protruded ground plane such that the end terminal of the second radiating portion is disposed in the first no-ground region.

Abstract: Upon producing a transparent polycrystalline material, a suspension liquid (or slurry 1) is prepared, the suspension liquid being made by dispersing a raw-material powder in a solution, the raw-material powder including optically anisotropic single-crystalline particles to which a rare-earth element is added. A formed body is obtained from the suspension liquid by means of carrying out slip casting in a space with a magnetic field applied. On this occasion, while doing a temperature control so that the single-crystalline particles demonstrate predetermined magnetic anisotropy, one of static magnetic fields and rotary magnetic fields is selected in compliance with a direction of an axis of easy magnetization in the single-crystalline particles, and is then applied to them. A transparent polycrystalline material is obtained by sintering the formed body, the transparent polycrystalline material having a polycrystalline structure whose crystal orientation is controlled.

Abstract: An on-demand portable chlorine dioxide generator has a reagent bound medium in a first enclosed volume; a complementary reagent solution in a second enclosed volume, and a structure for selecting between a first position where the complementary reagent solution is forced through the reagent bound medium and a second position where said complementary reagent solution remains isolated from the reagent bound ion exchange medium, where a ClO2 solution is generated only during periods when the structure for forcing is actuated. The ClO2 solution can be discharged for use as a portable sprayer that can be used to treat surfaces infected by anthrax or other biological contaminants. When the bound reagent is chlorite, the complementary reagent is an acid or an oxidant. When the bound reagent is an acid or an oxidant, the complementary reagent solution is a chlorite solution.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for searching message data in a portable electronic device are provided. A threaded message inbox is provided at a display of the device, the message data grouped as threads. Search criteria are received and a search of an index of the threaded message inbox is initiated using the search criteria, the index comprising key words extracted from the message data. Additional message data is received while the search is being performed, the additional message data belonging to a given thread. Additional message data is searched in addition to the index. Search results are generated based on whether at least one of data from additional message data and data from the index meets the search criteria. Search results are provided in threads at the display. Search results are automatically updated in response to receiving additional message data when the additional message data meets the search criteria.

Abstract: The disclosure provides a system and a method of processing keystrokes entered on an electronic device. The method comprises: monitoring for activation of two or more keys on the keyboard; evaluating whether the activation of those keys occurs within a set window of time; evaluating locations of those keys. After these evaluations, if the keystroke conflict is determined to not have been produced then characters for those keys are generated in order of their activations. If the keystroke conflict is determined to have been produced, then the method arbitrates between those keys to select a key utilising a dictionary to automatically determine the key to be selected. In the dictionary, its entries are related to each of those keys combined with any previously entered keystrokes. The method then processes the selected key to generate on a display one character, which is associated with the selected key.
