  • Publication number: 20050000648
Abstract: The invention provides a separation method for object and glue membrane, and it is characterized: an external force such as tearing apart is pre-applied for appropriately separating the glue membrane and the object, such that the binding ability between the object and the glue membrane is reduced, and a taking-and-placing head then sucks up the object; to achieve said objective, it can arrange a vacuum sucking-up seat that is moveable and has vacuum adsorption hole under the glue membrane, and the sucking force of the vacuum sucking-up seat may generate an external force such as tearing apart to the glue membrane, and the object is then sucked up by the taking-and-placing head; it is also possible to arrange a connection rod to lower down and lift up the taking-and-placing head simultaneously and, before the taking-and-placing head is lowered down to contact the object, it may bring along the connection rod to press down the glue membrane and generate an external force such as tearing apart to the glue membra

  • Publication number: 20050003439
Abstract: The genomic structure including the sequence of the intron/exon junctions is disclosed for KVLQT1 and KCNE1 which are genes associated with long QT syndrome. Additional sequence data for the two genes ARE also disclosed. Also disclosed are newly found mutations in KVLQT1 which result in long QT syndrome. The intron/exon junction sequence data allow for the design of primer pairs to amplify and sequence across all of the exons of the two genes. This can be used to screen persons for the presence of mutations which cause long QT syndrome. Assays can be performed to screen persons for the presence of mutations in either the DNA or proteins. The DNA and proteins may also be used in assays to screen for drugs which will be useful in treating or preventing the occurrence of long QT syndrome.

  • Publication number: 20050002628
Abstract: The present invention discloses a concept of natural index contrast (NIC) for producing photonic waveguides and methods of fabrication thereof. Such waveguide forms the basis of a class of chip-scale micro- and nano-photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The NIC method utilizes the built-in refractive index difference between two layers of dielectric thin films of two different materials, one laid on top of another. This new class of waveguides simplifies the PIC fabrication process significantly. Based on the NIC based waveguides, PICs can be fabricated for a number of photonic applications such as arrayed waveguide grating (AWG), reflective arrayed waveguide grating (RAWG), interleaver, interferometer, and optical sensor. Additionally, several other PICs can also be fabricated via tiers of integration, such as triple-phase integration.
