Abstract: A waterborne acrylate-functionalized alkyd coating composition is disclosed, which includes an acrylate-functionalized alkyd resin, at least one drier, and water. The acrylate-functionalized alkyd resin comprises the reaction product of (i) a hydroxy functional alkyd resin, (ii) an acid anhydride, and (iii) a glycidyl acrylate. Methods of preparing waterborne acrylate-functionalized alkyd coating compositions are also disclosed.

Abstract: An aqueous dispersion has an addition polymer (B) formed in situ on a sulfopolyester (A). The sulfopolyester (A) is formed as a polycondensation product of first and second reaction mixtures. The first reaction mixture includes at least about 70 mol. % of terephthalic acid or an ester thereof, and about 4–20 mol. % of a difunctional ester forming sulfomonomer containing at least one metal sulfonate group attached to an aromatic nucleus, wherein the functional groups are selected from the group consisting of hydroxyls, carboxyls and alkyl esters. The second reaction mixture includes at least two different glycols, at least about 20 mol. % of the second reaction mixture being ethylene glycol. The addition polymer (B) is formed in situ on the sulfopolyester (B) by polymerizing styrene monomer.

Abstract: An acrylate-functionalized alkyd coating composition is disclosed having improved dry time. The compositon includes an acrylate-functionalized alkyd resin, a solvent, and a drier package that provides the composition with a cobalt content of at least 0.01 wt %, based on binder solids content, and a calcium content of from 0.15 wt % to 5 wt %, based on the binder solids content. The drier mixture disclosed results in the coating composition having improved dry time when compared with similar coating compositions using conventional drier packages.
Abstract: A solvent-borne acrylate-functionalized alkyd coating composition is disclosed which includes an acrylate-functionalized alkyd, at least one drier, and an organic solvent. Also disclosed is a waterborne acrylate-functionalized alkyd coating composition including an acrylate-functionalized alkyd resin, at least one drier, and water. The acrylate-functionalized alkyd resin comprises the reaction product of (i) an alkyd resin having an acid number from greater than 0 to about 10 mg KOH/g, and (ii) a glycidyl acrylate. Also disclosed are methods of preparing acrylate-functionalized alkyd coating compositions, and coating compositions made by such methods.

Abstract: A modified pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) is produced by polymerizing at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer to form a base polymer and reacting the base polymer with a modifying polymer comprising units derived from a n-vinyl lactam to thereby produce a modified polymer. The modified polymer can be used to form modified PSAs having improved adhesion properties over PSAs formed from the unmodified base polymer.
