Abstract: A portable security device is disclosed which can be carried by an individual and connected directly to telephone circuits to both authenticate that individual and encrypt data communications. The invention can operate as an electronic "token" to uniquely identify the user to a network, to a computer system or to an application program. The "token" contains the complete network interface, such as a modem, which modulates the data and provides the circuitry required for direct connection to the network. Furthermore, this "token" will not permit communications to proceed until the device, and optionally the user, have been identified by the proper authentication. The token also contains all of the cryptographic processing required to protect the data using data encryption or message authentication or digital signatures or any combination thereof.

Abstract: A desalination apparatus including pressure responsive desalination means, a storage tank and conduit means connecting such storage tank to a pump mounted in a caisson defining a resonant chamber having an opening in one side thereof for receiving the incoming ocean waves. The caisson is configured in accordance with the natural frequency of the incoming waves and amplify such waves to drive a float coupled with the pump. Actuation of such pump pressurizes the storage tank to drive brine through the desalination means for separating therefrom potable water. The apparatus includes a turbine generator arranged to facilitate the pressurizing of the brine.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling an underwater well blowout including a vessel with a lower weighted collar vent ports intermediate the top and bottom of the vessel a valve controlled chimney at the top of the vessel, a gas outlet positioned to provide a gas cap in the vessel when the valve is closed with the vessel in position around the blowing well, an oil outlet above the vent ports and below the gas cap and means for pumping substantially only oil from the vessel at a rate to prevent oil from escaping from the vessel to the sea in substantial quantities.

Abstract: A battery charging and analyzing apparatus for a nickel-cadmium battery is disclosed. The equipment utilizes a type of solid state resistor formed of a plurality of paralleled emitter follower transistors which are collectively a load for a Ni-Cid battery. The apparatus senses the requirements for charge and adjusts a control voltage which is compared with a reference voltage. The control voltage is applied to a circuit which conditions a signal to adjust the conductivity of the emitter follower transistors as required. When the device is switched on or off by the application of power, charging or discharging through the solid state resistor (SSR) is accomplished. This is accomplished over a timed interval.
