    Abstract: Open circuit emergency breathing apparatus is disclosed which includes a pressure demand valve selectively connectable to primary and secondary sources of breathing gas under pressure to direct breathing gas to a breathing hose attached to the valve and then to a face mask worn by a user of the apparatus. The pressure demand valve includes a diaphragm actuated flow control member and a tubular breathing gas sensor operable in response to inhaling and exhaling by the user to control displacements of the diaphragm and corresponding displacements of the flow control member in a manner which enables obtaining and maintaining the flow of appropriate volumes of breathing gas to the user of a wide range of low to high breathing rates and a wide range of breathing gas supply pressures.

All valve functions are performed by valve components provided in a common support arrangement by which the valve assembly is mounted on the compressed oxygen container and structurally interrelated with the corresponding end of the scrubber. Breathing hose, pressure gauge and burst valve components are also mounted on the common support, and a breathing bag is mounted on the scrubber between the opposite ends thereof.

    Abstract: Portable emergency breathing apparatus is disclosed which is comprised of a unitary, generally flat manifold having opposite ends and top and bottom sides and a manifold passageway between the opposite ends. Three parallel, laterally juxtaposed compressed gas containers are mounted on the bottom side of the manifold by means of coupling components extending through the manifold from the top side and into internally threaded necks of the containers. Each of the coupling components provides flow communication between the interior of the corresponding container and the manifold passageway, and a shut-off and pressure reducing valve assembly is mounted on the manifold between two of the containers. The valve assembly has upper and lower portions respectively adjacent the top and bottom sides of the manifold with the lower portion disposed in the space between the necks of the two adjacent containers.

    Abstract: Portable emergency breathing apparatus is disclosed which is comprised of a compressed breathing gas container having a housing mounted on the open end thereof which supports a pressure gauge, a pressure reducing valve assembly, and burst valve, fill valve and needle valve components. The pressure reducing valve controls the flow of breathing gas from the container to a breathing hose attached to the housing and leading to a face mask or hood worn by the user. The housing has a flat axially outer end relative to the container and a radially outer periphery which is within the cylindrical plane of the side wall of the container, and the housing is structured for mounting on the container so as to optimize compactness of the apparatus and protection of the pressure gauge and the pressure reducing, burst, fill and needle valves from damage during storage and use.
