  • Patent number: 5353847
Abstract: A portioning dispenser for bulk food items is disclosed which receives bulk food items in a storage bin, portions food items from the storage bin, and dispenses measured portions of food items for further processing. The dispenser can include a rotary drum for conveying food items from the storage bin and a load cell for weighing the quantity of items conveyed from the storage bin into a secondary bin. The dispenser can also include a conveyor system for sequentially accepting, filling and returning a plurality of portion containers. The dispenser can include one or more inclined ramps for allowing containers to be slidably conveyed within the dispenser to and away from a basket filling station. In another embodiment of the invention, a method is disclosed for dispensing measured portions of bulk food items which includes several of the above-discussed operations. A container especially suited for use in the dispenser is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5332238
Abstract: A surface acoustic wave touchscreen sealing system and method is provided. The sealing system provides a liquid impermeable seal between the touchscreen surface and touchscreen housing to protect the electronic components of the touchscreen. The sealing system includes an elongated body of resiliently compressible self-supporting foam material that is substantially transmissive to surface acoustic wave energy. The elongated body has one outer surface or face of open cell material for contacting the touchscreen surface and ensuring acoustic decoupling. The elongated body further includes at least one outer skin or membrane surface or face that is a liquid impermeable barrier and extends between the touchscreen and the housing. Compression of the elongated body against the touchscreen surface provides a liquid impermeable seal at the interface of the membrane surface portion of the body and the touchscreen.

  • Patent number: 5249914
Abstract: A food transferring fixture is disclosed which can be used to transfer food items from one food preparation area to another. The fixture includes a hoop for surrounding items to be transferred and a spatula for scooping, supporting or depositing the items to be transferred. The hoop and spatula are mounted to a horizontally extendable frame for moving the spatula relative to the hoop. In other embodiments, one or more hoops and spatulas having a plurality of apertures arranged in a horizontal planar array are used to deposit food items in the array pattern and retrieve the items in the same pattern. After processing in some embodiments, a removably attached second subassembly may be used to transfer uncooked food to a cooking station. The uncooked food subassembly is then removed, and a first cooked food subassembly then retrieves the cooked food items. Additionally, a method for transporting food items which incorporates many of the above-listed features is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5205748
Abstract: A play apparatus for use by children is provided having a base which includes horizontal spaced apart obstacles, legs for supporting the base on a generally flat supporting surface, such as a floor, and a tunnel structure positioned over the base. The tunnel structure has openings which serves as entrances and exits and which define a pathway through the play apparatus. The legs support the obstacles above the floor so that a child must step over the obstacles as he walks through the play apparatus. The tunnel structure is located at a predetermined height over the base. The height chosen requires a child to stoop or bend over while walking through the play apparatus. In one embodiment, the play apparatus has an additional tube attached to and extending through a side wall of the tunnel. The tube provides an additional opening through which a child may crawl. This embodiment has six obstacle members carried by the base.
