Abstract: Attachment systems for attaching accessories to a helmet shell and their methods of use are described. In one embodiment, an attachment system may include a first attachment portion mounted to a helmet shell and extending through an opening in an associated accessory. The attachment system also may include a second attachment portion that is selectively connectable to the first attachment portion. A surface of the second attachment portion facing the helmet shell engages with a bearing surface of the accessory to selectively attach the accessory to the helmet shell. In certain embodiments, the first and second attachment portions may be selectively connected to one another using a connector that moves the second attachment portion both vertically and horizontally relative to the first attachment portion when the connector is tightened.

Abstract: A helmet accessory attachment member includes a finger-actuatable lock configured to secure an accessory attachment member mount to a helmet mount as part of securing an accessory such as a mandible guard to a helmet. The lock includes a pivot arm with a rotation axis that is parallel to the helmet surface, and also includes one or more blocking surfaces on the pivot arm to engage with grooves on the helmet mount. The lock may be positioned on a slidable insert of the accessory attachment member.

Abstract: Attachment systems for releasably securing an accessory to an article, such as a helmet, are disclosed. In one embodiment, an attachment system includes an attachment plate that includes engaging features which engage corresponding engagement features on an attachment base. At least one of the engaging features on the attachment plate is associated with a flexible member, and is movable between a locked configuration and an unlocked configuration via deformation of the flexible member. A pair of grips are provided on opposing ends of the flexible member, and the grips are pressed toward one another to move the movable engaging feature between the locked and unlocked configurations.

Abstract: A battery balancing system for parallel connected batteries for balancing batteries that are at dissimilar voltages. The system has first and second buses, connected by a current limiter. A high bus takes energy from the highest voltage battery or batteries in the system and transfers the energy through the current limiter to the low bus, which in turn delivers energy to the lowest voltage battery or batteries in the system.

Abstract: Methods and devices for attaching a battery to a helmet and attaching a battery to an additional device are disclosed. A battery may be mounted to the rear center of a helmet. Attaching and detaching a battery to and from a helmet may be performed with a tool or by hand. The battery may be used to power multiple devices through separate contacts, and a device may be attached to the battery while the battery mounted to a helmet. The battery also may be detached from the helmet and serve as a portable energy source.

Abstract: Suspension systems for helmet assemblies provide enhanced stability and adjustability for installation in helmets across different platforms. A suspension system may include an upward stabilizing member extending from a support portion of the suspension system and a pivotally attached downward stabilizing member. The pivotal attachment between upward and downward stabilizing members allows the suspension to be appropriately incorporated into helmets that are subject to manufacturing and specification variability, while still providing flexibility for fit adjustments to the suspension system.

Abstract: Helmet-mounted display unit arrangements provide improved adjustability, including pitch, yaw, and/or vertical translation adjustment. In some embodiments, adjustments to one parameter do not affect the adjustability of other parameters. The helmet-mounted display and associated mount may be arranged such that the helmet-mounted display fits behind a helmet-mounted visor and/or in front of glasses being worn by the user.

Abstract: Connectors for adjusting the location and/or orientation of a helmet accessory relative to a helmet are disclosed. In some embodiments, a connector may have a single lock and/or a single actuator that a user uses to selectively restrict or permit adjustment of the helmet accessory in multiple directions, including translating and/or rotating the helmet accessory relative to the helmet along one or more axes of translation and/or rotation.
