  • Patent number: 8056749
Abstract: A plastic closure includes a base molded as one piece with a lid and integrally connected to the lid by a hinge. The lid is radially inwardly displaced from an outer periphery of the base. The hinge has a central portion with a convex outer surface, with the lid closed and as viewed in side elevation, that blends with a smooth curvature into outer surfaces of the lid and the base. The hinge has laterally spaced end portions on opposite sides of the central portion and having concave outer surfaces when the lid is closed. The base preferably has a circular periphery and the end portions of the hinge are angularly spaced from each other. The outer surface of the lid preferably is flat, and the lid preferably is integrally connected to the base as molded by at least one frangible bridge spaced from the hinge.

  • Patent number: 8028848
Abstract: A container and closure package to provide secure threaded attachment of the closure to the container in a predetermined orientation and inhibits removal of the closure. A container neck finish has an external thread and an external annular ledge or flange therebelow having external locking recesses or notches. A closure includes an inner annular wall adapted for threaded engagement on the neck finish. A closure outer annular skirt wall inhibits tampering access to an intermediate annular locking lug wall disposed concentrically between the inner and outer skirt walls. Locking lugs protrude radially inwardly from the inner periphery of the intermediate annular wall and are disposed for snap receipt into the ledge locking notches as the closure is fully threaded onto the container neck finish.

  • Patent number: 7942281
Abstract: A closure includes a plastic shell having a generally flat base wall, a peripheral skirt for mounting the closure on a container neck finish and an annular portion integrally connecting the skirt to the periphery of the base wall. A flexible resilient sealing liner is disposed on at least an inner surface of the annular portion. The annular portion has an inverted V-shape with an outer leg integrally connected to the skirt and an inner leg integrally connected to the periphery of the base wall such that the base wall is disposed axially beneath the annular connection between the inner and outer legs. The inner leg is resiliently flexible with respect to the outer leg upon engagement with an end of a container neck finish so as to flex the inner leg and the base wall outwardly with respect to the skirt and thereby draw the outer leg into engagement with an outer surface of the container neck finish.

  • Patent number: 7934920
Abstract: A mold core includes a forming pin having a hollow interior and an end wall. A passage, preferably in the form of a hollow tube, extends into the hollow interior of the forming pin and has an end sealingly secured at a position spaced from the end wall of the forming pin. A poppet valve is disposed on the end wall of the forming pin. The poppet valve is responsive to air pressure within the passage to open and permit flow of air through the end wall of the forming pin to assist stripping of molded articles from the mold core. The poppet valve includes a valve element having an outer end at the end face of the forming pin and an inner end adjacent to the end of the passage. A spring preferably biases the valve element to a closed position. The spring preferably comprises a coil spring captured in compression between the valve element and the forming pin.

  • Patent number: 7874441
Abstract: A plastic closure includes a plastic closure shell having a base wall with a central opening and a skirt for securing the closure to a container neck finish. A plastic disk includes angularly spaced fingers extending into the central opening of the shell base wall and external beads on the fingers for engaging an inner periphery of the central opening to retain the disk within the shell. The beads have flat undersurfaces and the inner periphery of the central opening has a ledge with a conical surface engaged by the beads. Any doming that occurs in the disk and/or the closure shell base wall increases the surface contact between the finger beads and the opposing surface of the ledge so that removal of the shell from a container neck finish will simultaneously lift and remove the disk from the neck finish without having the beads snap through the central opening in the shell so that the shell is removed while the disk is retained on the neck finish.

  • Patent number: 7837064
Abstract: A fluid dispensing device includes a barrel having a hollow interior, an inlet opening at one end and an open second end. A plunger is slidably received within the hollow interior of the barrel through the open second end and has an outlet passage extending through its length to an outlet outside of the barrel. An inlet valve is disposed at the inlet opening of the barrel and an outlet valve is carried within the outlet passage of the plunger. A closure is secured to the barrel over the open end of the barrel and over the plunger, with the closure urging the plunger into the barrel against the inlet valve such that the plunger engages the inlet valve and holds the inlet valve closed. Opening of the closure permits the plunger to be withdrawn from the barrel to draw fluid into the barrel through the inlet opening and the inlet valve. Return of the plunger into the barrel closes the inlet valve and forces the fluid in the barrel through the outlet passage and the outlet valve in the plunger.

  • Patent number: 7823736
Abstract: A plastic closure for receipt on a container includes a plastic ring having an internal recess adapted to be received by snap fit over an external crown or bead on the container neck finish such that the ring is retained against axial movement on the container neck finish. A plastic lid is coupled by a hinge to the ring, with the ring, the lid and the hinge being of one-piece integrally molded plastic construction. The lid has a skirt that is adapted releasably to be snapped to the ring in a closed position of the lid over the ring. The lid skirt may have an external bead that is adapted to be received by snap-fit within an internal channel on the ring in the closed position of the lid over the ring, and a conical internal surface on the ring may be provided to guide the bead on the lid into the channel on the ring.

  • Patent number: 7735665
Abstract: A child-resistant dispensing closure includes a base having a deck with a dispensing opening, a peripheral skirt extending from the deck, and an inner wall extending from the deck for securing the closure to a container. An axial passage extends from the deck between the peripheral skirt and the inner wall, and opens radially outwardly through the peripheral skirt. A pair of spaced ledges are disposed in the axial passage. A lid is molded integrally with the base and is coupled by a hinge to the base so as to be pivotable between a closed position overlying the deck and an open position spaced from the deck. The lid has a latch arm that resiliently extends from a periphery of the lid. The latch arm has a pair of oppositely extending tabs for engagement with the ledges to lock the lid in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 7721907
Abstract: A child-resistant closure includes a base, and a lid integrally molded and coupled to the base by a hinge. The lid has a latch arm resiliently extending from a periphery opposite the hinge and having oppositely extending tabs adjacent to a free end of the latch arm. The base has an external recess for receiving the latch arm and spaced ledges in the recess for engagement by the tabs to lock the lid in a closed position. The latch arm is engageable by a user to pivot the latch arm radially inwardly within the passage and release the tabs from the ledges so the lid can be pivoted toward an open position. The tabs and the ledges are recessed radially inwardly from the outer surface of the latch arm in the closed position of the lid with the tabs engaged beneath the ledges.

  • Patent number: 7651651
Abstract: A plastic closure that comprises a cap having a base with a peripheral skirt defining the cap interior and threads on the skirt for securing the closure to a container. A liner is secured to the interior of the cap, preferably by being compression molded in situ on the base. The liner consists essentially of a multiplicity of alternating layers of a matrix polymer material such as EVA and a barrier material such as EVOH to resist transmission of gas, water vapor and/or flavorants through the liner. The matrix polymer material preferably is preblended with a compatibilizer material such as a maleic anhydride grafted polymer that ties the matrix polymer material to the barrier material.
