Patent number: 4208583Abstract: Apparatus for the detection and analysis of particulate material carried in a fluid stream comprising a sampling device through which the fluid stream may be passed, said sampling device incorporating means for arresting and carrying an accumulation of particles restrained from flow in the fluid stream, means for directing ultra-violet radiation onto the sampling device at a location where the accumulation of particles results, and means whereby optical radiation analysis may be performed of the radiation emitted by the accumulation of particles consequent upon their excitation by the ultra-violet radiation means.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1978Date of Patent: June 17, 1980Assignee: Reyrolle Parsons LimitedInventor: Dennis M. Patent number: 4117524Abstract: A current-limiting device for an alternating current system has for each phase a pair of saturable reactors each with an iron core, an alternating current winding and a superconducting direct current bias winding which is common to the reactor cores and biases them both to saturation. The two alternating current windings in each phase are connected in series opposition such that under fault conditions they are driven out of saturation on alternate half-cycles and thus limit the overload current. The superconducting winding has a surrounding magnetic flux screen which also forms a loop for shunting alternating current under fault conditions and which may be used as a direct current control circuit for varying the bias level. The screen serves as the outer vessel of an evacuated enclosure for the superconducting winding and a suppot system for the inner vessel is also described.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1976Date of Patent: September 26, 1978Assignee: Reyrolle Parsons LimitedInventors: Kenneth Charles Parton, Anthony Derek Appleton, Trevor Carlisle Bartram

Patent number: 4110590Abstract: Welding apparatus for inert gas shielded arc welding comprising a welding gun for holding and controlling a non-consumable electrode and including means for supplying inert gas to the welding arc region by way of a gas cup surrounding but spaced from such an electrode when positioned in the gun, the welding gun being further provided with an extended gas shielding wall arrangement protruding a substantial distance beyond the gas cup and capable, either by itself or in combination with a narrow gap weld preparation, of substantially enclosing an electrode in the gun, except for its tip, when the electrode is protruding for a similar distance beyond the gas cup.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1976Date of Patent: August 29, 1978Assignee: Reyrolle Parsons LimitedInventors: John W. Batey, Anthony C. Potter

Patent number: 4103194Abstract: A voltage generator comprising a first and a second mechanical system which systems are arranged for relative rotation to one another by means of a shaft incorporated in the first system being supported in bearings mounted in the second system, the shaft of the first system carrying an off-axis biassing weight of sufficient magnitude to restrain by gravitational force the first system from rotation when the shaft is horizontally orientated and the second system is rotated about an axis coincident with the shaft axis, a permanent magnet forming part of one of the systems and an armature winding being carried by the other whereby rotation of the second system about the first causes voltages to be induced in the armature winding.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1977Date of Patent: July 25, 1978Assignee: Reyrolle Parsons LimitedInventor: Antony Faithfull Anderson

Patent number: 4086461Abstract: A high-voltage circuit-interrupter has a contact arrangement operating in compressed gas contained in a sealed vessel. The contact arrangement comprises a pair of spaced aligned tubular fixed contacts respectively connected to the terminals of the interrupter, and a pair of separable rooting electrodes mounted within the tubular fixed contacts and electrically connected respectively to them. A tubular bridging contact sleeve is slidably mounted on the tubular bridging contacts and is movable between a closed position bridging the spaced ends of the tubular contacts and an open position withdrawn from one of them to open a gap therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1975Date of Patent: April 25, 1978Assignee: Reyrolle Parsons LimitedInventor: Stanislaw Mieczyslaw Gonek

Patent number: 4070558Abstract: A high-voltage circuit-interrupter for operation in an insulating gas or liquid contained in an enclosure, comprises a generally tubular movable contact assembly mounted for movement relatively to a tubular fixed contact to draw an arc between them. The movable contact assembly comprises a tubular main contact carrying a nozzle and having a relatively-axially-movable auxiliary contact in its interior. A puffer cylinder-and-piston device is arranged to direct a flow of the insulating fluid under pressure through the nozzle and thence into the interiors of the fixed contact and the movable contact assembly through the gap between them on operation of the circuit-breaker.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1975Date of Patent: January 24, 1978Assignee: Reyrolle Parsons LimitedInventors: John Stanley Stewart, Peter Headley
