  • Patent number: 5872327
Abstract: A sub-caliber, spin stabilized multi-purpose projectile (FAPDS) made of a liquid phase sintered heavy metal sintered material composed essentially of metallic tungsten powder with additives of cobalt and nickel. To attain the highest final ballistic performance in lightly armored air and ground targets (e.g. aircraft, helicopters, armored personnel carriers) the present invention provides that the tungsten percentage of the projectile body lies between 90 and 99.5 weight percent, the density of the sintered material lies between 17.5 and 19.2 g/cm.sup.3 and the ratio of cobalt to nickel in the binder phase lies between 1:0.5 and 1:2.3, preferably 1:1.5. The projectile body according to the preferred embodiment of the invention is made of one piece and includes in its front portion a cylindrical pin for fastening of a projectile tip made of heat treatable steel.

  • Patent number: 5831204
Abstract: A propellant igniter assembly includes a housing having ignition channels for the passage of an ignition flame through the housing; an igniter part accommodated in the housing; and a booster part accommodated in the housing and frontally adjoining the igniter part. The booster part has a booster charge which includes a first partial booster charge adjoining the igniter part and composed of a readily ignitable substance and a second partial booster charge adjoining the first partial booster charge and being separated thereby from the igniter part. The second partial booster charge entirely obturates all the ignition channels. The second partial booster charge has a burning behavior and a mechanical stability such that the ignition channels remain obturated for a short duration even after ignition of the second partial booster charge, whereby a firing impact is first retained in the booster part and is subsequently abruptly released in a concentrated form through the ignition channels.

  • Patent number: 5771833
Abstract: An arrangement for sweeping moored mines (8) with at least one cable cutter (4) that is arranged on a sweeping line (2) and is designed for cutting through the mooring line (9) for a respective mine (8). To achieve a relatively fast and safe destruction of the moored mines (8), in addition to the cable cutters (4), mine destruction devices (3) are also attached to the respective sweeping line (2), which devices are fastened respectively in front of the snap grippers (4) in towing direction. The mine destruction devices (3) each have on clamping device (12) that can attach itself to the mooring line (9), a buoyancy element (14) that is connected to the clamping device (12) with an unreelable line (16) and a mine destroying activator (15) that is attached to the buoyancy element (14). If the mooring line (9) hits the mine destruction device (3), the clamping device (12) detaches itself from the sweeping line and clamps down on the mooring line (9).

  • Patent number: 5682011
Abstract: A spin-stabilized projectile includes a projectile body having a trailing end; a first circumferential groove provided in the projectile body; and a second circumferential groove provided in the projectile body between the first circumferential groove and the trailing end of the projectile body. A rotating band is received in the first circumferential groove and a sealing ring is received in the second circumferential groove. The scaling ring has a radial and an axial clearance of between 0.5 and 1 mm from the walls of the second groove.

  • Patent number: 5648632
Abstract: A weapon system for a combat vehicle includes a weapon movably mounted on the vehicle; an electronic weapon control device connected to the weapon; a weapon operating station for accommodating a gunner; a plurality of angled mirrors disposed in an array in the weapon operating station to provide a panoramic view for the gunner when situated in the weapon operating station; a separate switch associated with each angled mirror and connected with the electronic weapon control device; a camera attached to the weapon to be movable therewith; a display screen connected with the camera for reproducing an image representing a view seen by the camera; a support arrangement for movably supporting the display screen for travel along the array; a positioning drive connected to the electronic weapon control device and the display screen whereby upon operation of one of the switches belonging to one of the angled mirrors through which a target is observed, the electronic weapon control device moves the weapon at the target
