  • Patent number: 10574086
Abstract: A control system and hardware with a controllable input relay provides two different modes of operation—uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and mixed energy-AC support. For each operation mode, regulation of the DC-Link and neutral point balancing is guaranteed even for non-linear unsymmetrical AC loads. Moreover, in the mixed energy-AC support mode, unity power factor operation of AC input source, seamless zero current crossing, and very low total harmonic distortion (THD) is provided by the applied non-linear control algorithm. The system has a higher efficiency in comparison to other AC-DC-AC converters with smaller size and weight because of the elimination of the typical balancing circuit.

  • Patent number: 10439392
Abstract: A serial acquisition of multiple power sources via one or more multiplexers which is circulated in many corridors of a multi-port system with a resonant engine. A controller manages multiplexer/switches connecting a first plurality of DC power sources and an auxiliary DC power source to a circulator. A multiplexer/switch revolves each source of power to inverters for DC-AC conversion. Reciprocity of power sharing and management of signal routing between input power sources can be performed to maintain discrete operation between the input/output power sources and individual power inverters for precise load power delivery. Regenerative power from a motor load can be directed to “recharge” an input power source. The resonant engine applied to each power source provides a constant conduit of energy during off-operation/cycles.

  • Patent number: 10250036
Abstract: A peer-to-peer power compensation architecture for utility power systems has a “ring-pathed” power transmission supply line with legs connecting a utility power source to a utility customer load, to a secondary power source, and to the utility customer load. A sinusoidal signal is injected on the first and third legs, with a predetermined amplitude, frequency and phase characteristics, wherein at least one of the characteristics being varied as function of a voltage level and a power factor of supplied power from the respective leg. A controllable power hub with an inverter is coupled to at least the first leg and the third leg, the inverter having at least one DC or AC-based power source. The injected signal's characteristics from the respective leg are evaluated to determine if the power hub's power should be introduced to the leg to compensate for under-voltage conditions.

  • Patent number: 10211754
Abstract: A device and method for generating single/split or three phase AC voltages from a DC source with 1 to 2 times gain in output voltage without using any DC/DC boost or an output transformer. An isolation/multiplexer/mixer circuit successively charges multiple power modules, allowing each power module to generate output voltage(s) with desired magnitudes and phases, and allows independent outputs of each power converter modules to be reconnected to obtain up to two times the conventional possible output voltage. An isolation block eliminates the common mode noise problem. The gain in output voltage and isolation between the output converters eliminates the need of the front end DC/DC converter or an output transformer for most of the DC voltage sources, which improves cost, power density, efficiency and reliability of the inverter.

  • Patent number: 9853567
Abstract: A high efficiency multi-mode/multi-phase power conversion device has DC-boost receiving input power from a plurality of DC (e.g., solar) sources, power inverters and an AC grid supply. Power conversion switches are arranged in a stacked configuration with controllable inner and outer switches conveying: in an non-inverting switched mode, an AC voltage from power from the AC grid supply; in an inverting outer switched mode, an AC voltage from power from the AC grid supply; and in an inverting outer and inner switched mode, an inverted voltage from power from the DC-boost circuit. At least one input switch and output to the AC grid supply is coupled to an output of the power inverters and a resonant circuit is coupled to the input switch. A rectifier and/or high voltage AC output tap is coupled to the resonant circuit and a controller is coupled to the power conversion switches and the input switch.

  • Patent number: 9461556
Abstract: A high efficiency, multi-mode, regenerative AC-DC-AC inverter power system contains an inverter bridge, a bi-phase matrix (BP-Mtx) containing reverse current oriented, series-connected sets of controllable switches, wherein inputs to a first and second set of controllable switches are coupled to the inputs of the first inverter bridge, and outputs of the first and second set of controllable switches are coupled to inputs to a third set of controllable switches. A chargeable DC power supply is coupled to an output of the third set of controllable switches. The load-side DC-bus is coupled to outputs of the first inverter bridge and a second inverter bridge. The switches of the first inverter bridge, second inverter bridge, and BP-Mtx are modulated to charge the DC power supply from either excess voltage from line inputs or the DC-bus, and to provide compensating energy from the DC power supply for load or line input perturbations.
