Abstract: The present invention includes a system and method for generating a discussion group based on different electronic images. A mixed media reality database receives MMR objects that correspond to source material and indexes the MMR objects. A content management engine generates a cluster that includes MMR objects based on a similarity of source material. An MMR engine receives an electronic image from a user device, performs a visual search and identifies an MMR object that is associated with the electronic image. A social network application identifies a discussion group associated with the cluster that includes the MMR object and provides the user device with access to the discussion group.

Abstract: An Image Based Document Management (IBDM) server includes a table generator, a query engine and a user interface engine. The table generator generates a table that includes a label image and at least one field image in a column. The label image represents a column header for the at least one field image. A query engine receives requests to modify the table and in response generates queries to query the table. A user interface engine provides the table for display and modifies the table in response to user input.

Abstract: A system for converting a collection of data to a structured, printable and navigable document includes: an analyzer and a layout unit. The analyzer is coupled to receive a data collection source such as a web page associated with a wiki and other user parameters, and generates a representation of content associated with the data collection source. The output of the analyzer is coupled to an input of the layout unit to provide the representation of content. The layout unit is also coupled to receive a style sheet or other user preferences. The linearizer of the layout unit retrieves the necessary content using the representation of content. The retrieved content is then formatted by the layout selector of the layout unit to generate a paginated document and metadata. This output can then be printed on any conventional printer or manipulated and interacted with using applications or a web browser.

Abstract: A MMR system for newspaper publishing comprises a plurality of mobile devices, an MMR gateway, an MMR matching unit and an MMR publisher. The MMR matching unit receives an image query from the MMR gateway and sends it to one or more of the recognition units to identify a result including a document, the page and the location on the page. The MMR system also includes a quality predictor as a plug-in installed on the mobile device to filter images before they are included as part of a retrieval request or as part of the MMR matching unit. The quality predictor comprises an input for receiving recognition algorithm information, a vector calculator, a score generator and a scoring module. The quality predictor receives as inputs an image query, context information and device parameters, and generates an outputs a recognizability score. The present invention also includes a method for generating robustness features.

Abstract: A banner advertisement system includes an advertisement terminal, a banner advertisement server, and an image forming apparatus. The advertisement terminal generates a banner advertisement. The banner advertisement server distributes the banner advertisement generated by the advertiser terminal. The image forming apparatus includes a displaying mechanism for displaying the banner advertisement distributed by the banner advertisement server and a response sending mechanism for sending to the advertiser terminal at least one of an order and an inquiry for at least one of a product and services offered by the banner advertisement displayed on the displaying mechanism.

Abstract: A MMR system for newspaper publishing comprises a plurality of mobile devices, an MMR gateway, an MMR matching unit and an MMR publisher. The MMR matching unit receives an image query from the MMR gateway and sends it to one or more of the recognition units to identify a result including a document, the page and the location on the page. The MMR matching unit also includes a result combiner coupled to each of the recognition units to receive recognition results. The result combiner produces a list of most likely results and associated confidence scores. This list of results is sent by the result combiner back to the MMR gateway for presentation on the mobile device. The result combiner uses the quality predictor as an input in deciding which results are best.

Abstract: A workflow-enabled provider includes a service provider and a workflow manager interface unit. The workflow manager interface unit couples the service provider to a workflow manager to provide the automatic discovering, distributed processing and dynamic user interface generating functionality. An advertisement monitor listens for broadcasts from the workflow manager regarding new clients. A request module and a response module handle the transfer of data and control signals between the workflow manager and the service provider. A process control module performs a plurality of processing functions including aggregating requests from clients, selecting requests it can service, presenting user interfaces, processing input via the service provider and controlling the service provider. The user interface module is coupled to the process control module and dynamically generates user interfaces for display by the service provider.

Abstract: A Mixed Media Reality (MMR) system and associated techniques are disclosed. The MMR system provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types (e.g., printed paper as a first medium and digital content and/or web link as a second medium). In one particular embodiment, the MMR system includes a method, system, and computer readable medium for embedding a hot spot in an electronic document. Marks corresponding to a designation for a hot spot in an electronic document are embedded, allowing for later capture of coordinates corresponding to a printed representation of the electronic document and the hot spot.

Abstract: The system includes a registry server and devices. The registry server is coupled to the devices for publishing or registering spots, managing places and authenticating membership and places. The registry server includes a data store for constraint metadata, an authentication module, a spot manager module, a place manager module and a query response module. The devices are adapted to collect field values, create spots, access places, and interact and share information with other spots. In one embodiment, the devices include a constraint collection module, a spot creation module, a query module, a challenge creation module, a presentation module, a challenge response module, a spot action module and a spot communication module. The present invention includes methods for creating a spot, for generating and approving a challenge, for direct communication or sharing of documents, for performing an action based upon information space membership and for searching for available places.

Abstract: A system and method for limiting access to one or more forms based on a location constraint is described. A form access module retrieves one or more forms on a portable computing device, determines a location of the portable computing device, determines whether the location of the portable computing device is within a region where form access is granted, granting access to the one or more forms responsive to the location of the portable computing device being within the region, receiving strokes from a first user in at least one field on the one or more forms and storing the one or more forms and the strokes received on the one or more forms.

Abstract: A system and method for creating one or more manifests that group one or more forms by one or more tasks is described. A manifest application determines one or more tasks and a first order for the one or more tasks, determines one or more forms associated with each task and a second order for the one or more forms within each task, generates one or more user interface elements that each link to a corresponding form within each tasks, generates a manifest comprising a summary of the one or more tasks in the first order, the forms in the second order for each task and the user interface elements that each link to a corresponding form and provides the manifest for display on a portable computing device.

Abstract: An electronic writing solution server includes a workflow dashboard application that comprises a dashboard generator. The dashboard generator receives a collection of forms, each form in the collection being of a same type and having been created from a dashboard template, the dashboard template including an association of fields, steps and indicators in each form, identifies which fields have been filled in by at least one user for each form, determines a current step of a multistep workflow based on the fields that have been filled out for each form and generates a dashboard for displaying a number of forms that correspond to each step.

Abstract: A system and method for capturing logged data from proximal equipment onto a form. A form creation application determines equipment in proximity to a portable computing device, receives a selection of a piece of equipment from a user, extracts logged data from the piece of equipment that is selected, determines a form with a structure to fill in with the logged data, parses the logged data and fills in at least one field in the form, generates graphical data for displaying the form to the user, provides the form to the user, receives input on the form from the user and stores the form and the input received on the form.

Abstract: An electronic writing solution server includes a classification application that comprises a classifier and a user interface engine. The classifier receives multimedia data on a form, identifies at least one field in the form to be modified and modifies the at least one field in the form based on the multimedia data. The user interface engine provides the modified form to a user.

Abstract: The disclosure includes a system and method for aggregating form data based on marks in graphic form fields. The system includes a controller, a request customization module, a search module and a presentation module. The controller receives data indicating an initiation of a search request from a user, data describing a form selected by the user, data describing a graphic form field specified by the user in the form and data describing a region of interest specified by the user in the graphic form field. The request customization module customizes the search request using the region of interest. The search module performs a form search on a collection of form data using the search request to determine one or more matching forms that each include at least one mark satisfying the region of interest. The presentation module provides the one or more matching forms to the user.

Abstract: An electronic writing solution server includes a query engine and a user interface engine. The query engine receives a search query from a user, the search query specifying a field in at least one form and including a first stroke or text, retrieves clusters from a database, retrieves example strokes from the clusters at vary levels of similarity to the first stroke, receives user selections for strokes of interest from the example strokes, and retrieves information associated with the strokes of interest from the database. The user interface engine generates graphical data for presenting the retrieved information to the user.

Abstract: The disclosure includes a system and method for implementing a wide-area pressure sensor with reduced power consumption. The system includes a first layer printed with conductive ink in a first pattern that includes a first portion of an AND array and a first portion of an OR array, a second layer printed with conductive ink in a second pattern that includes a second portion of the AND array and a second portion of the OR array, and a separation barrier that goes between the first layer and the second layer. These AND and OR array switches can be combined together in one or more zones to create a wide-area pressure sensor with reduced pincount and power consumption, and can be used to determine the location of pressure points in a wide-area.

Abstract: An electronic writing solution server includes a stroke autocompletion application that comprises an autocompletion processor. The autocompletion processor loads a blank form for a user, the form being associated with a list of auto completion target, retrieves a set of regions and a first form identifier (ID) included in the list of auto completion targets, receives information about the user, identifies a set of potential completion lists from a plurality of potential completion lists stored in a database based on the set of regions, the first form ID and the information about the user, retrieves at least one stroke from the set of potential completion lists for a region in the set of regions, ranks the at least one stroke and provides the at least one stroke to the user.

Abstract: A method and system for generating strokes in real-time on an electronic paper display. A display device receives the stroke input, which is converted to binary code by a digitizer. A rendering engine renders the high-resolution stroke data in non-antialiased form to an ink buffer. The rendering engine then updates pixels based on the color or gray level of the background (unlinked) pixel and the amount of ink covering the pixel.

Abstract: A MMR system for publishing comprises a plurality of mobile devices, an MMR gateway, an MMR matching unit and an MMR publisher. The mobile devices send retrieval requests including image queries and other contextual information. The MMR gateway processes the retrieval request from the mobile devices and then generates an image query that is passed on to the MMR matching unit. The MMR matching unit receives an image query from the MMR gateway and sends it to one or more of the recognition units to identify a result including a document, the page and the location on the page. The MMR matching unit includes an image registration unit that receives new content from the MMR publisher and updates the index table of the MMR matching unit. A method for automatically registering images and other data with the MMR matching unit, a method for dynamic load balancing and a method for image-feature-based queue ordering are also included.
